What is the long term prognosis for paraneoplastic syndrome? My sons wife needs 24 hour a day care . He is tring to do it and work from home. Anyone have this or heard of it? I was just diagnosed, it is supposedly quite rare. I also have paraneoplastic syndrome that they think is causing the Encephalopathy or brain tissue inflammation...any thoughts ?

HI, It is well known that oral contraceptives increase the risk of venous thromboembolic disease. If one does not have any other 'personal risk factors' or 'disease factors' for venous thromboembolism, generally, oral contraceptives need not be stopped prior to surgery.
