I've read a number of posts where people speak of "letting their pancreas rest", or "saving their pancreas", or "saving their beta cells". Okay, this is a true genuine question and I'm not trying to be a smarty pants. But what you saving your pancreas or beta cells for? I don't quite understand what this means.

The doctor has perscribed the generic form of this to my 77 yr old mom without seeing her, I called her doctor and asked them to perscribe something for her nerves because my dad is under hospice care with pancreas cancer, Is this drug like a xanax? Are the side affects bad? I googled some info but would like to hear from anyone who has taken it.
