The substitution method involves solving one equation for a variable, then substituting the value into the other equation. I'll do the first as an example.... 8x - 5y= -46 8x + 86=y The second equation is already in the proper form. Substitute (8x + 86) for y in the first equation... 8x - 5(8x + 86) = -46 8x - 40x - 430 = -46 -32x = 384 x = -12 Now, plug this ...

Why is it that authors use the term "pair" and "ordered pair" interchangeably and, maybe I'm mistaken, a little imprecisely? For example, in listing the field axioms, the language "for every pair x and y" is usually used. However, surly the author means "for every ordered pair x and y", otherwise, there is no need for the axiom of commutativity (neither for addition nor ...

Nineteen-year-old rapist sues 15-year-old rape victim for child support. And wins. Is there an ordered pair of genders in which this headline makes any sense? Quote: LANCASTER, Ohio --- A Pickerington couple and their son are fighting for custody of a baby born to a Lancaster woman charged with having unlawful sex with the boy, who was 15 at the time of conception. A paternity ...

The whole point of "ordered pair" is that, unlike the set {a, b}, we distinguish between the two members. Writing (a,b)= {{a},{a,b}} just means that there are two members, a and b, and we distinguish between the two. Hurkyl's point about "the set {a, {a, b}} doesn't always have two elements" is that the "pair" (a,b) corresponds to the set {{a},{a,a}}. But since {a, a} is a set where we don't ...

After some research, I settled on the Thule Aero setup they sell in Europe for the A3, over the US Aero or the Audi base carrier bars. I was looking for the T-track design as I have an old VW Fork Mount carrier from my Touareg (7M0071128C) that fits the t-track design. The Audi base carrier bars look a bit flimsy to me. I've read here and elsewhere that the end-caps break, etc. The US Thule...

I broke down and ordered a pair of CZ82's from J and G.. They had a good price, and I'd only ordered from them once, which was a bit of a pain for ordering a few scopes.. So, a couple days ago I thought about ordering from them.. I sent them an email asking if they had my FFL on file.. A bit over a day later, I get a reply that yes, they had my FFL and my FOID (Illinois firearm owners ID).. ...

A pair of brand new women's WW Marmot capris size 10 in Khaki color. The tags are still attached and they regularly retail for $50. I recently ordered them online and they don't fit me. It just doesn't make sense to pay for return shipping. Available for pick up near Enfield or on Cornell's campus. Pictures are available upon request. Read more...
