To cut a long story short, I'm trying at present to get Talk Talk to arrange for a BT Openreach engineer to come out and replace an old RF2 filter for the upgraded RF3 filter. Openreach engineers replace these as standard whenever they encounter them as they are a known cause of ASDL problems. In my case I believe it's affecting my line quality therefore reducing my speeds. First hurdle is ...

Anyone see tonight's Watchdog featuring Openreach and people being charged for repairs to BT infrastructure outside their property on a public street? I saw one item mention that the property tenant/owner was charged because she was not able to repair it herself, but the cable was in the street. I thought it was illegal to be repairing BT infrastructure after the demarcation point. ...

I'm interested to know what the standard Openreach overhead cable is and if there is anything better. After a quick Google I found this: http://www.fscables.com/tele-1128.php It lists both shielded and armoured cable for use both overhead and underground. If it were possible, at the customers cost, could/would Openreach be prepared to change the cable from the property ...

When I returned from work early yesterday afternoon I found a Openreach van sitting outside my house. I naturally assumed that they had been called to do some work by a neighbour, although in the hour and more that I was pottering around the front garden I never saw the driver leave the van, he was still there when I went to the pub. This morning I found that the router has re-...

Telecommunications researcher firm Point Topic has released four maps this week showing the areas set to receive a next-generation broadband upgrade across the UK over the next few years. Available to view here the maps clearly show where BT Openreach has announced it will be deploying super-fast broadband between 2009 and the end of 2012. Coloured areas representing planned upgrades look ...

In reply to a post by MrSaffron : .......... Un able to comment on the precise cases as only have the footage to go on. Or put it this way, over the years there has been at least one person admitting to damaging a cable on the forums to force a replacement. The cases in the programme were clear, the people concerned should not had been billed. Id agree someone could ...

I'm not with Talk Talk but I did have several OR engineers to my property through Plusnet. I believe that base callout charge is about £125 and it can go up from there. Just make sure you've done the normal sequence of tests to eliminate your equipment and internal wiring as the cause of your poor broadband: Plug directly into the test socket at the point where the cable enters the ...

In reply to a post by bluetroll : If the cable is shielded but the shielding isn't earthed is there a potential for it to make things worse rather than better? Or will it just sit there doing nothing much at all compared to unshielded cable of similar quality? At a length of 2 metres, it really won't make any difference either way. In reply to a post by MrSaffron : Yeap spotted the wiring, and congrats on a decent picture for once. If you get nowhere with TalkTalk, then drop me an email with the pictures attached, and a rough timeline, and contact details and I'll try putting in an enquiry to BT Group, basically along the lines of can they normalise things, i.e. put new junction box at eaves, put twisted ...
