44mag with open sights help.

I just aquired a SRH 44mag 9.5"barrel that I am currently using the open sights on. I'm shooting Hornady 240grn XTP's. I am putting all the rounds in a 4" target @ 50yards. I don't reload so I am stuck with the factory stuff. What kind of drop can I expect at 75&100yards with this ammo. I'm new to handgun hunting and don't want to scope the pistol yet until I figure out if I like this ...

I plan on hunting whitetail this season with open sights for the first time.I will be using a .444 marlin.What do you think the maximum range for using open sights should be?I have my blind about 40 yards from the deer trail and I think I should do alright,but what distance do you think I could go out to if needed?

Growing up, all I ever used was open sights, and, although some nice fellows at the range have let me shoot their scoped rifles, I don't feel that it's as challenging as shooting with open sights. I have a TC Omega I bought last season and I fired it one time at an upside down plastic flower pot from about 25 yards with open sights. It hit what I would consider a kill area out of the box. My questions is, if I'm hunting primarily thick stuff where my longest shot is say 40 yards max, should I just stick with the fiber optic iron sights? Would a scope be helpful or just get in the way? My wife and I went out to the farm Saturday so that I could shoot some with my SKS before deer season starts... I know most of you have mixed feelings on hunting with ex mil surps, but this is what i have and its what I plan to use... We set up the target in a ditch so we would be shooting into the bank, and drove up to the pasture on the other side... I paced the distance off to be about 70...

Sako open sights

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but can someone enlighten me on why some older Sako rifles have a front open sight without a open rear sight? Might be a dumb question but i can't figure it out.

So, I took a friend of mine, who has never held a gun much less shot one, out to teach him how to shoot. I taught him the same way my father taught me. But he questioned why my go-to gun is open sighted and why my only scoped gun is for deer and elk. That got me to thinking, How many of you that have a go-to gun have it scoped or open sighted?

open sights on a Savage 10 FCP?

I'm in a situation where I'm not able to put a scope on this rifle at the moment. It does not come with sights of any kind but is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Is there a reasonably good & inexpensive solution for putting open sights on this gun, until I can put a scope on it? I was thinking maybe doing just the scope mounts and perhaps finding a sight that would mount on that...
