I searched and couldn't find a diy for the oil pan gasket. I have the Bentley manual and it's pretty much straight forward. I was wondering if there is a way to support the engine from the bottom as opposed to from the top. I don't have the tool to lift the engine from the top. BTW, this is for a 2000 328i auto if it matters.

EDIT: C4, 12V, AFC engine I am thinking of replacing both, the upper and lower pan gaskets. Did anyone have to ever change their upper gasket? While the lower gasket is fairly easy to replace from below, of course(although the sway bar seems to be in the way of some of the pan's bolts), is the upper one done also from below, or you have to pull the engine out?...

So I have been reading around and talking to people about oil cooling issues and most said that a bigger oil pan would be fine instead of running an oil cooler. So then I was on a search to find one. ISIS($119) vs Greddy($375.99) vs Moroso($299) vs ARC($399.99)....hmmm I wanted the Moroso cuz my car is pretty low and that specific pan is same as oem height and people complained weather Greddy or...

Since they're all M30s, would an oil pan gasket meant for an E28 535i/E24 635CSi work on an E34 535i? The oil pan mating surfaces are the same as far as I know, so it should fit fine, correct? Cheers, -Emil

In-truck oil pan change I know some of you have done it, but I can't find those threads now. I'm thinking about doing this to my Lightning when I get to see her again this Christmas, since it's cracked and I don't have an engine hoist. Obviously, I have to remove the upper intake so I can jack the engine up, but do I have to unbolt the transmission, too? Take the driveshaft ...

Steel oil pan in place of Aluminum one? Didn't find much searching. Busted the aluminum one and have one from an 85 8v, i've heard sludge can be a problem with steel oil pans...but since TDIs call for Synthetic (which i use). I see no problem. Aluminum oil pans suck for lowered cars.

Does anyone know if the windage tray used with the Canton 7qt road race pan will work with the stock oil pan? I'm hoping to just swap oil pumps and return to the stock pan. I seem to recall the windage tray is held in place by some studs on the main caps. It's been a while, so my memory is foggy about that....

I have a perfect condition oil pan from a 1993 325i sedan. 95k miles on it, it is cleaned up and ready to go. Local pickup from San Diego would be nice. $80.00 plus shipping.
