HPC variant of Power7 comes with four octo-core devices in one 800W, 5336 pin MCM clocking at 3.5 to 4 GHz. At 4 GHz it has a peak DP FLOP rating of 1024 GFLOPs/s. Yikes, a 200W chip! Is the iMac Quad Core i7 faster than the 2008 Octo-Core Mac Pro? So the older Mac Pro's from 2008 have 2 2.8ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon processors, without hyperthreading, for a total of 8 cores, and the top of the line iMac has a Quar Core i7 2,8ghz with hyperthreading for a total of 8 (virtual) cores. Mac Pro will still destroy iMac. As said above, Hyperthreading isn't same as 8 physical cores plus support for Hyperthreading is still quite poor. Mac Pro is upgradeable too

Alright I seem to be having random latency and lag issues on my mac pro on and off, random tiny spikes. Any suggestions on how to optimize my network a little better? Even suggestions for good routers might not be bad, mine is pretty old.

That's incredible! I was just about to say a move from a quad core to a six core wasn't enough of a jump for me, and to wait for the octo core. But damn thats amazing! Must be the 32nm process?
