I looked on My gas cap, and didn't see it anywhere. My brother said if my cars 9.5:1 compression ratio I should at least be running 91 octane. I've always put 87 in it. With the exception of a couple fill ups. So what should I put in it?

Sorry if this has been asked before 100times... In Melbourne we have 91ron, 95ron, 98ron, 99ron and 100 available at the pumps. Is there any benefit to running an octane higher than 91ron? has anyone done comparative dynos with different fuels? We have 10%ethanol too but i hear this **** degrades rubber parts?

I was told recently that the higher the octane rating the hotter the engine burns. I've always followed bmw octane recommendation and fueled with the highest rating, but is the hotter temperature burn ok offsetting the octane benefit? What about going mid octane rating? If your only tool is a hammer, every problem starts to look like a nail !! Everyman is the architect of his own...

In 2005, I moved from NJ to AZ . The highest unleaded octane was 91 in AZ vs 93 in NJ. This past week, I took a road trip to New Mexico--the US State located just to the East of AZ. I noticed the unleaded regular octane rating in N.M. was 86, not 87. Can anyone explain why the regular unleaded is 86 in New Mexico? The altitude was +6,000 feet in the area I visited. When I ...

Our cars call for 91. I've been using 93 faithfully, and over the past few months I'm one of those guys who's experienced pre-ignition BS. Did some chevron treatments, changed plugs and air filter and it went away 95%. Lately it started coming back a little bit. I filled up with 91 for the first time and its quieted back to 95% gone. Is 93 as bad as 87, since our cars want 91???

Been using 89 octane in my 09 TI. Tried a tank of 93 octane and didn't notice much difference. I hope that the 89, and 93 for that matter, are OK with the engine which I believe is designed for 91 octane. What are most of you running ?

You'll get a slightly worse fuel economy and slow acceleration if you try to use a lower octane gasoline (since new ECUs will try to compensate for that).
