Looking for some good .40 OAL recommendations for a 1911 using 180gr LSWC. I have tried a short OAL down to having the shoulder of the LSWC almost at the case i think the length was about 1.09 if memory serves, just ran some today at 1.135-1.14 and did a little better but did not feed consistently. I would guess somewhere around 10% of the rounds failed to feed and jammed before feeding up in ...

Hello, I am porting some code from CE5 to CE6 that implements a feature using custom kernel IOCTLs. Ultimately, the custom IOCTL handler is given a pointer to a struct containing embedded pointers. Is it possible to use the marshalling API functions such as CeOpenCallerBuffer() from within the OAL? If not, is there another...

Using a Hornady OAL guage w/ modified .308 case to find seating depth for a match king 168gr hpbt in my Remington 700 VTR in .308 cal. I get 2.99" when I use calipers to measure OAL. Too far out for the neck to even hold the bullet and well over 2.81 SAAMI max and Sierra manual for this bullet of 2.80 Clearly I cannot use this information to seat bullets. I would like to hear ...
I'm working on some 9mm 147gr loads with Clays. Lyman manual says 1.9 gr start with 1.055 OAL for lead. This seems very short to me, especially with a 147gr bullet. The crimp would be up the taper of the bullet quite a bit. Anyone think it would be a problem at about 1.130 OAL? This OAL hand cycles fine in my DW PM-9 where these will be used.

Hi I just started reloading for 9mm Luger, I loaded some cartridges in Remington brass w/ Remington primers, I used Hornady 115gr. FMJ bullets with Accurate No.5 powder at 6.3gr (this is what my lee manual said as start load) with a min. OAL of 1.095. After looking at the accurate data it says that for a 115gr JHP bullet I use 6.3gr No. 5 powder as a start load, with a min. OAL of 1.095....

I've just bought the Hornady OAL gauge and am using this with the off-the shelf .308 modified case and the Hornady bullet comparator. I'm reloading for a Remington 700. I am using the Hornady AMAX 168gr I made several measurement using the gauge. I seemed to get a fairly consistent measurement of 2.337". I decided to knock the whole 0.037" off to be on the safe side and went ...

Help with OAL for .45 ACP I have the Lee, Lyman and Speer manuals plus the Web. I find a lot of difference in OALs. I am using Win 231 with 230 grain Lead round nose. In my new STI Spartan I find FTFs with the 1.26 as recommended by some manuals. I recently tried some 200 grains loaded with 4.7 of 231 and an OAL of 1.19 and it...

I am using Hornady XTP Bullets 45 Caliber (451 Diameter) 185 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point bullets currently loaded to 1.15 OAL. However, I am seeing some failure to feed problems with these. In talking to one gunsmith, he advised I load these to 1.25 OAL -- is that a wise move?

OAL - getting closer all the time Load is for a CZ 527 Varmit .223, using 50 gr. Sierra Blitzking w/26.0 gr. 2230 powder. According to measurements, OAL using a Hornday Bullet comparator is 1.960" for that rifle. Isn't that an excessively long chamber? Total Bullet length is 2.348" which leaves me .010" from glands. Round...

Here are some pics of the new Mini DH. It is approx. 7 3/4" in OAL with a 3 1/4" Blade and a 2 13/16" cutting edge. The blade is 1095 with hamon. It is a frame lock with a 1/8" Ti and g-10 handle. It sports some file work on the back bar and thumb ramp. There are a couple of pics of the mini next to the full size DH for comparison. There is about a 10% difference in size although my pics do ...

Big R, The Sierra manual has a COL of 3.245" for that bullet in the 7mm Rem. Mag. They recommend a maximum load of 63.6 grains of IMR 4831 SC for hunting and 50.9 grains of IMR 4064 for accuracy. This is using a Federal case and Federal 215 primer. The tests were in a Savage 116, and not a pressure test gun, so you should lower them 10% and work up, especially if you are using different ...
