I didn't feel like paying $10 shipping for a $2 part ('04 washer) so here's what I did to space out my countershaft sprocket for O-ring chain use. My local Ace Hardware had the hardened 7/8" and 8mm washers. The 8mm washer probably isn't necessary but, obviously, doesn't hurt. I used a bit of blue Loctite on the bolt and torqued it to 23 ft/lbs.

The problem is that the chain has sat for quite a while (4-6 years) and the O-Rings have degraded. The chain is a little rusty and the O-Rings are cracked in some spots. The chain can probably be revived, but I obviously can't fix O-Rings. I don't plan on running it in the dirt so, should I just revive the chain and let the O-Rings do what they will? I don't really want to buy new f/r ...

Got around to doing a set of sprockets/chain on my bike, switched from the stock to an o-ring. But with the o-rings added on the chain is too wide to fit through my chainguide (It fits, but is really snug). What do you guys recommend I do? its an 04 husky cr125 if that matters.

About to order some parts, what is the advantage to an oring chain if after you ride you have to wash and lube it anyway? Why aluminum sprockets if steel last longer? Last question, JE, Wiseco, which kit is the most for the buck and which gasket kit for the top end, OEM or which brand?? Thanks for the answers in advance.

OK, so we work hard to find chain lube that doesn't fling off of our chains, etc. I have used Chain Wax, and Silkolene pruducts and like their stick to the chain abilities. Do any of you TT'ers have any suggestions how to clean the chain lubes off the chain? I can wipe excess spray from rims and trailing arm with gas nicely, but what about the cleaning the chain without removing it ...

I just put new sprockets and a Pro-Taper o-ring chain on. There seems to be about .020 clearance between the countershaft sprocket and the case. The master link is catching a bit in the lower chain guide. Is this a problem? I hate to ditch this $100 chain but would rather do that then something more serious. Thanks Mike

In nearly 30 years of off-road riding I've had excellent results with the following process, so I thought I'd share. It's a little more involved when the chain is muddy, but it works well for getting a chain clean like it was new. Begin by taking your garden hose and rinsing as much of the ordinary dirt from the chain as possible. (The solvent can penetrate better without as much dirt) For...

I have a YZ250f and do mostly "rough" trail riding, and some enduro style racing. Weekend warrior type riding with freinds. We built an endurocross type track on a mountain side with a hard packed clay surface. Currently i am running a heavy duty non o-ring chain. I bought a brand new sunline aluminum rear sprocket and roached it in one day of riding. The area we ride has many steep inclines ...
