If Americans really take the plunge and enter a carbon-constrained world, it might look a little like the Stokes family's home in Falls Church. Nolan Stokes and Kathy Harman-Stokes -- a financial planner and a lawyer with two children in elementary school -- are installing a geothermal heat pump in their front yard that will tap the Earth's constant temperature to warm their home more ...

Does anyone have a good mechanic, that they would recommend, in the Northern Virginia area? I've owned 7 Audi's over the years including two previous S4's ('00 and '04) but I have yet to find someone who really knows what they are doing with the S4. I just purchased a '01.5 Avant and my current shop says it needs $5200 in work and they are pricing labor for each item, like control arms and ...

I purchased it in August 2009, just joined the forum because I did the first 5000 mile maintenance today. The oil filter housing was interesting, but had no issues. While looking through the maintenance schedule, the lack of several items caught my attention....

I was so impressed that several vendors at the Farmers Market at Oakton, Va show up in the blustery Saturday. They couldn't put up their tents because of high wind. In the cold wind, they put up their tables and products. From time to time they have to press down on their tables to protect their goods from the greedy wind. All vendors sell goods either made from home-kitchen or grown on ...

I've been living in the Brambleton area for nearly two years. Yeah, schools are great, kids are safe, nice brand new homes, but.....boring. You have to drive nearly ten miles one way to get anywhere, including the basics like Target or to get the kids a hamburger at McD. I am just so not used to this. There is so much vacant brand new retail space, I fear it's going to be a ...
