My best friend applied EA to Stanford. She got two letters from Stanford (Accepted and Deferred). When she called to which one the decision was, they said deferred. They said that they had her under both letters because she was in between due to her financial situation . If they take her, they would've had to given her a full ride. So they deferred her on that basis. Now this is from the ...

I'm sure this has been covered, but I couldn't find it in a search. I am an "economically challenged" student. What happens when I talk about how I've had to work my way through community college (transferring as a junior) with no help from parents etc in my essay? Obviously they know that it's a fat chance I"ll be shelling out 40k next year for their university ha. Do they have essay folks ...

I understand that top colleges(Ivies, MIT, Stanford,etc..) are need blind. So how do they distinguish between affluent and low income students? What if a low income student lived in a high middle class neighorhood? For example, in my case, my family's(of four people) annual income is around $40,000, but it has not impacted my education that much. I am at the top of my class of 400 and have a ...

As an international student, does applying for financial aid hurt my chances of bing admitted i.e. does WUSTL practice need-aware policy toward international students? Its website never specify?

For international undergraduate applicants who need financial aid, the most obvious solution is to apply to the seven schools that are both need-blind and full-need for internationals (HYP, MIT, Williams, Amherst and Dartmouth). Obviously none of these schools are a safe bet for anyone, so it would be wise to apply to a broader range of schools. And there are certainly institutions that are not ...

i'm helping a friend get her act together. she has mediocre high school stats and will be enrolling in a community college either for the spring or next fall. we're trying to figure out what schools she should be looking at for after so that she knows what pre-reqs to complete. i don't think she has a major in mind at the moment, but the financial part is really important for her, so please list ...

We are a very confusing family financially (Americans living abroad) and though the financial calculator says we can pay $40,000 a year for college, we plan to explain that we have other circumstances living in the Middle East not on these forms that affect our income--two younger children who cannot attend public school in Arabic in a developing country and therefore must be educated privately. ...

Hello, Thank you so much for clicking on this thread. I'd like some help - I'm looking to transfer to a small liberal arts college next spring as a sophomore, but many LACs I'm interested in are not need-blind to transfers (Vassar, Wesleyan). I'd be able to pay about 20k of the tuition, but I'd need about 30k in financial aid. Are there LACs similar to Vassar & Wesleyan that would still be...

But need blind aid? No such thing. Very true. I think he did mean need blind for admissions. However, just because a school is "need blind" for admissions DOES NOT mean that it meets need and will give you the aid you need. I can think of many schools that admit just by stats - they don't care what your finances are - but then they'll give you a lousy FA package when you apply...

yeah, i knew about penn and columbia, but thanks. any other help? not necessarily a quick link to a list, but maybe any uni's anyone might know which are? Are you asking which "non elite" schools are "need blind"? the problem is that the non-elites don't typically give aid to int'ls. So, many are "need blind" (meaning they'll admit you even if you need money), but they won't give ...

USB tuners are not cheaper than recycled STB FTA receivers. I'd strongly recommend you starting out with a stand alone receiver 'till you get up to speed in the hobby. You don't need to control switches, motors, nor do blind scanning for just NASA, but as your interest grows, the usefullness of those features will become apparent. Kinda like buying a car with no lights nor back seat. ...
