Checked it out today. It was a bit chilly... Newcomb's Ranch - got really lucky and still standing. Elevation 5,400', a little below freezing last night, they claimed in the 50s today but I don't think it got out of the 40s, if that. When the L.A. Times reported a cafe burned down, people assumed it was Newcomb's but it was this place, I think it was...

Spent yesterday today with Search and Rescue searching for two snowmobilers that had run out of gas 50 miles from civilization. Here are a couple pics I took along the way. I hadn't planned on posting any of these, But I like this one and would really like to hear your critique on it. Thanks!! Darin

Hav'nt been over that way in quite some time, but I think at the least you may want to pick up an Inyo National forest map, or other connecting BLM/forest maps, it would show any trails currently open or still in use. Maybe google up some info on ghost towns and/or minings sites in the area. Those can make for some good exploring/wheeling. WRM

It just take a few hundred yard icy patch in the shade of Mt Hull to block things. Plenty of time to loop back to 101 I guess. That would leave a crossing from Laytonville to Usal road to Shelter Cove as the adventure! Or pavement into Covelo and onwards northwest ...

You are absolutely corrent, fangars. I moved here from the Midwest and have lived in 7 states. I have never seen disrespect for the land greater than in Arizona. It is a litter nightmare over the majority of the state that people can get to or where the winds blow plastic bags.

BUMP... Can anyone give me information on 4 wheeling opportunities in the Osceola National Forest? Also, how about information on Ocean Pond Campground. Is there anyone interested in riding Osceola anytime soon. I have never been there but I would like to check it out..
