Hello, I have been requested to setup a Windows Server 2003 and for it to act as a nameserver, so that: ns1.domain.com ns2.domain.com are on the same machine? Is this doable, if so any links and advise on how to do it will be much appreciated. Shouldn't ns1 and ns2 be on two different machines? Last question, is it right that a nameserver should not also be a web server? I have a client ...

Hi, I'm trying to setup a DNS server. Both the web server and DNS server are on the same computer. I'm using Windows Server 2008 and DNS Manager. I've tried to ping fraserking.co.uk and the nameserver ns1.fraserking.co.uk although this doesn't work. When I set the NS record In the DNS manger "Edit Name Server Record" box to the WAN IP address a message displays "A timeout occurred ...

First you would get a new account with us - and then transfer all of your website files. Once that is done, you would need to update your domain name's DNS/nameservers (with the company that registered your domain). That's all there is to it. After your domain is completely pointing to your new hosting account, you could then safely cancel your old host. We setup all accounts ...

I see where some hosts offer custom nameservers with a dedicated IP address. How are they creating two nameservers with just one IP? Are they in a sense using 3 IP's (2 for nameservers and 1 dedicated ip)? I want to create a few reseller accounts, but the only way I know of doing this is by using two IP addresses.

( I have a domain which contains about 20 workstations, one DC/DNS, and one web server. The web server has Windows 2003R2 SP2 and IIS 6.0, and hosts multiple web sites for customers. We have the DC/DNS server exposed to the internet as the nameserver for all of the websites, and DNS attaches the static IP we're assigned by the ISP to the domains. Externally, if you ...

hey, Running slackware 12.1 and looking at the resolv.conf, noticed that is says: search nameofserver nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx (the above is just an example) When I usually change the DNS on servers I usally just put nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx like so. What does specifing search actually do? I usally take out that line. Thanks, vadder
