I must be missing something but after reading the NTSB report and watching the animation I do not understand what would cause the airspeed to decrease at level flight and on auto pilot. Given that lowering the landing gear would cause parasitic drag but shouldn't the auto pilot compensate for this action.

I am starting this thread in anticipation of the NTSB findings due out today (Feb 2, 2010). Early reports indicate pilot error, violation of sterile cockpit, pulling back on controls instead of pushing forward during stall (aerodynamic stall) and concerns about training, experience, fatigue. I imagine we will want to talk about this accident and its aftermath.

Post deleted. We have a clear policy on posts about accidents...especially accidents where there was loss of life. We also clearly say that these forums don't exist to be a news source about all things aviation. DRK - 874106

Now braking problems with the Prius. Toyota has big software/electronics problems - it's not floormats or friction in the accelerator. Talk about a nightmare. Huge safety problems that they won't admit to. Floormats - yeah right - guess again. NTSB is going Batsh*t. Lawyers are circling. This could be a steep fall to oblivion for Toyota. There's going be a bunch of Toyota owners ...
