At our local supermarket I saw some Monarda Grand Parade for sale and I was wondering if it is too late to plant it in my zone? Also I have some other bee balm that I would like to move (Petite Delight and Marshalls Delight). Can I do this now or wait for spring?

I currently have Jacob Cline in my front yard hot-color entry bed. I like the red color and the big flowers but hate it's habit. It looks sparse, flops, gets powdery mildew, stems break off, etc. Looking for: around 3 ft tall, hot color, denser plant with strong upright habit, full sun, hardy in zone 6, low mildew susceptibility. Any suggestions ? If not monarda, what else would fit those ...

Please help me match the yellow of my 'Bonanza' Daylilies with the "right" yellow coreopsis: 'Moonbeam', 'Creme Brulee', or 'Zagreb'. I also want to add an upright goldenrod to this side of the border. The existing plants (besides the daylilies) are 'Jacob Kline' monarda, 'August Moon' hosta, compact viburnum, and serviceberry, with calamint edging. I would really appreciate the input of ...

I ordered this from a catalog this early Spring and it hasn't had but ONE bloom. It's either a MONARDA of some type or a KEYS OF HEAVEN. Don't know which one. And can someone explain why did it take off so well, yet not yield any blooms? The second photo is a close-up.  Thanks!!

Very pretty Monarda. I thought about adding it, but have decided to avoid all spreading plants (tell this to the Obedient plant in my garden). I love seeing all the butterflies too. The Monarchs still come around to all my other flowers, and a large bright yellow butterfly. I do like butterfly weed, and maybe it will be better next year. I like to plant flowers that the hummingbirds and ...

Except for a few exceptions, I agree that this is mostly a personal preference. I leave a lot of things standing, and think that most ornamental grasses and the big Buddleia 'Black Knight' look great during the winter. Also the birds love to pick at the seeds and flit amongst the stalks of certain plants like Echinacea, Agastache, Rudbeckia, Eupatorium, etc. I usually cut down the Peonies...

Calling Alliums "Ornamental Onions" kind of diminishes them. It's true they're closely related, but Alliums deserve more respect that being labeled inedible onions. These late-spring bloomers look like a fireworks display in the garden. In fact, I've seen the dried flower heads spray painted neon colors and left in the garden to dazzle throughout the summer. There are dozens of alliums to...
