Don't worry, this isn't a general query about what router and that, it's a more specific one. I'm pretty computer literate, but there's been something about modems and routers that's been bugging me. I know that the modem converts the signal coming down the line, such as analogue into signals that the router/network/computer can understand. Now, DSL modems will ...

Does anyone know any fairly cheap, wired modems? Since I don't have a Wi-Fi network in my house yet (old-school, right? lol) I'm going to have to go with a wired hookup. I know that my setup will be like this: my cable for Cable TV will feed into a 2-way splitter, then one TV cable will continue as normal, while the other one leads to a modem. From there, an ethernet cable will ...

Thinking of upgrading my service to higher speed range. What's out there to allow >30 Mbps connections? Seems most modems cap around 30. Thanks. Using Comcast. I need DOCSIS 3.0 to get those speeds.

This is a weird question but, do internal cable modems exist? Not NIC's. I mean, I was just thinking, it would be nice to be able to have a coaxial cable input sticking out of the back of my PC, rather than a separate box with separate wires. Yeah, I know I'd have to have a short one or two inch ethernet cable running from the cable ...

I read through a discussion here http://www.amazon.com/tag/video%20games/f orum/ref=cm_cd_et_md_pl?_encoding=UTF8&cd MsgNo=1&cdPage=1&cdSort=oldest&cdThread=T x2L85JG0UB04N2&cdMsgID=MxEETSGLVVYA96#MxE ETSGLVVYA96 where the poster was asking about two DSL modems on the same line. There was speculation as to whether this could be done or not, but from what I read that was all conjecture. Has ...

I shall post this message as a follow-up to another thread as well. AIO Printer C309a Hello all, We are experiencing a persisting problem with a brandnew C309a . The unit freezes when scanning, copying or faxing. The unit is connected to our LAN via ethernet and a switch. When re-booting the printer it works normally. It has been surmised that there might be an ...

I already checked with fry's (although they not on cooper) and all they have is off brand stuff no one's ever heard of. I am looking for something name brand, that I can actually find some support on if need be. Something like D-Link, Belkin, Trendnet, Motorola, 2-wire... the usual. So where can I find a place that sells a wireless modem on cooper? That's where I'll be headed today. Perhaps ...

I got Mint 7 running and I've figured out that I probably need to get gnome-ppp running somehow in order to use my modem (since I dont know much about using command line, yet..). But will I have to install Mint on my machine to do that? If not, how do I get gnome-ppp running? Can I tell it to run from a USB or something? I've got the gnome-ppp-0.3.23.tar.bz2 file downloaded onto USB, and I don't...

Well. I went to Incredible today to buy a nic. I ask the guy "Network Cards?" He takes me to a pile of 56k modems.. Seriously? Modems? A Whole PILE of them? I was a bit surprised... Surely that can't be a hot seller now days. Anyway when I turned around the dude was gone. So I found another dude. "I'm looking for a nic." He says "Who?" I resist the urge to yank him around a bit ...

Steam used to have a really nice client-side bandwidth throttler (in its first inception, when some of us had modems). If you were playing an online game, somebody else in the household wanted to use the net, you were downloading some other stuff, or it just wasn't an emergency and you didn't need massive speeds, you could set it to not exceed whatever KB/s you chose. For example, I'm ...

You can't assume that just because you connected at a speed like 48.3KBps that you will stay there. Today's modems automatically fall back to a lower speed if the line noise is too high to maintain a faster connection, but sometimes they fall back too soon or too far. Here's how to do it: Click Start the button. Select Settings. Click Control Panel. Double-click on the Modems icon...
