For the purposes of this poll: a) Methodological atheism means that evidence is approached in such a way to be skeptical and suspicious of all apparent evidence for to supernatural or divine agency. b) Methodological agnosticism means that evidence is approached in such a way that supernatural and divine agency is assumed to be unknowable and therefore must be overlooked for the sake of study...

The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) a popular management tool is increasingly becoming popular. This write-up is an introduction to the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for people that are unfamiliar with this amazing technique. For an in depth discussion into the DEA, the interested reader may refer to Seiford and Thrall (1990) or the seminal work by Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes (1978). With ...

:) I am confused by what I have perhaps misunderstood. General advice suggests that I should select my font(s) before writing to benefit legibility. Similarly, the advice is that I should select my layout before writing. However, the geometric picture does not become visible until after I have written! In which case, to achieve any given page composition, the relative darkness and ...

"1. Many ID proponents have asserted the Designer is god, most specifically one of its leading advocates, Dembski." The initial hurdle which must be cleared is whether the primary postulate is valid. A person might say "There are no elements of design in nature", but the question is whether said person is being honest in their assessment. Once it has been established that there ARE ...

Hey F. Cone, I accept all 5 of Irma's premises. F. Cone says: "Right now I see the supernatural as arbitrary and, worst of all, non-existent." Okay, so let's rephrase the 5 premises to reflect that: 1. Methodological Naturalism is the basis of Science 2. Science precludes the non-existent 3. God is assumed to be non-existent 4. Science does not deal with God 5. Science should not be ...

Quote: You are right about one thing: methodological naturalism is based on an assumption which is that observations have natural causes. That assumption has proven extraordinarily efficacious and scientists are right to resist every a priori attempt to ring fence areas of experience and observation based on this or that metaphysical or religious rationale....

Let's just say that the South needs to clean up their act! Quote: As described in a story at Wired Magazine, an enterprising team from the Geography Department at Kansas State University has created a series of United States maps that purport to show incidence of the seven deadly sins mentioned in the Bible: greed, envy, wrath, sloth, gluttony, lust, and pride. Now, there are some ...

Think, "Let me share what others know about parsimony:" Talk about a non-sequitur. Carl's use of the law of parsimony has nothing to do with building phylogenetic trees. The point was to Ken Cox's comment on why would god make it all look like evolution. The law of parsimony here means that if you don't need a god or designer in the mix because everything works well without him, then you...

There are some areas of the spec where there are no significant methodological issues, so I would doubt that you could lose 25% of your AO2 marks. I went to an AQA CPD session with Simon Green recently & the impression I came away with was that they were waiting to see what the January papers looked like before finalising how they will credit AO2 (which doesn't really help anybody!)
