Hello, I will be visiting Thessaloniki at the end of October and would like to take a side trip to Meteora. I am thinking about renting a car and driving there myself or taking an organized tour if there is one. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for me? Thanks so much.

We will be catching a 8:20am train from Athens to Meteora. We are staying near the Monstraki station. What train line would we take to get to Larrisis station from Monstraki (I think this is where our train leaves from- on the OSE it just says Athens? Is Larrisis the main station?). I didn't notice a bus service. When you say 1/2, do you mean half a day or 1-2 days? Off season (and possibly in season) it is only possible to do the monestries all in one day at the weekend as they all have different closing days. It is next to impossible to do them all in half a day as most of them have a long lunchtime closure. There are ...

We did this trip in two days with an overnight at Ioannina. Its worth an overnight stay as there are some pretty places, This portion of the drive is quite enough to do in one day, it is very mountainous and winding roads, a beautiful drive but not one to do if you are tired and pushing it.
