Having been teachng abroad since September last year, my husband and I are now considering moving back to the UK. There are a few reasons for this, but one of the main ones is that we would like to start a family. If we stay where we are, we are concerned about our financial security and also the fact I will only be entitled to 4 months maternity leave on very low pay. I would be in ...

Hi, this is my very first post so I hope someone can help! I would like to start trying for a baby next year and my company policy is that I must have been working there 12 months to qualify for maternity pay - it seems to be that I get full pay for the first 6 months. Does anyone know if you qualify for anything else after this period? The info I read at work ...

I currently claim the full £243 each month in childcare vouchers. I am currently pregnant and have found out my employer has to continue paying me the childcare vouchers over my entire maternity leave. What I want to know is whether I can stop claiming the vouchers in the weeks used to calculate my maternity pay and then restart in order that I can still get them over my maternity leave?...

I am currently claiming the full £243 of childcare vouchers each month. I know that my employer must continue to pay these over my maternity pay. Can I stop claiming the vouchers during the weeks that my maternity pay is calculated in order to maximise my maternity pay and then rejoin the scheme in order that I get the vouchers over my maternity leave?

A message to let people know more than anything. While on maternity leave you only pay half the union fees (with NASUWT at least!) I found this out by accident - my children are nearly 5 and nearly 3 so a bit late for me!

I would definately be doing something about that too Karlielkc . They can't sack you because you're pregnant. Thats discrimination. I would seek legal advice ASAP. Were you on a temporary contract? How long were you working for the company? I don't know how much I'll get as i'm self employed. Makes it even more confusing

Yes you need to go back and work for more than 26 weeks, I had the same problem 4 years ago after working overseas for a year. I only got SMP the for duration of my maternity leave. All your previous service is cancelled out. If possible hang out for that period of time, as the maternity pay is good, (experienced this the 2nd time around) generally 1/2 pay plus SMP for the first 5 ...

The couples rate is just above £100 so your hubby wont be entitled to any JSA. It looks like you were/are receiving the max tax credits as it is if you were only working 16 hours a week and receiving that amount of wages.

You will get paid properly until the 30th Dec and your mat pay will start on the 31st Dec. I did a similar thing with my daughter who was due in the summer hols. Mat leave start date was the day before her due date, and i got holiday pay up until that point. If the baby turns up early, even during the hols, then your mat leave starts automatically on that day (as my daughter did!). ...

Republicans are fine with insurance companies charging women more in premiums due to pregnancy and with allowing them to make maternity coverage a separate rider. I used to sell health insurance and most individual policies don't automatically cover pregnancy and birth. You have to buy extra coverage for that.
