As title says... what is it? Flushed out the old oil today and to my horror it looks like it was running on auto transmission oil (assuming red oil = auto oil?). Filled up with some Penrite Hypoid 80W-90 to tide me over till I decide what to do with the gearbox as its in need of either a rebuild or replace. Anyhow, looked through the service manual couldn\'t find anything, tried the \'search\' ...

Hello! Is it possible to retro fit the Hill Hold feature on this car? My guess is that all the hardware is already in the car, and all I need to do is alter some bit on an ECU long coding using VCDS. Thanks, .. Paulo

Hi, I have a 2003 - W211 E270 CDi MANUAL gearbox. Recently its started to jump out of first gear. It happens only once out of 20 times, apart from that all the gears work fine. It jumps out badly sometimes, scares you, its like a thump and goes into neutral. Has anyone come across this before or have any idea as to what this could be? Thanks

couple of simple ones. 1. are the gearboxes identical between the 125BHP and 143BHP 220cdi engines? 2. how much extra torque can be put through them without breaking them? ie would 11lb/ft extra be enough to destroy a box?

I purchased this car earlier this year for $1,100 from the original owner's son. It is a original black with red leather. The car is low mileage and was improperly stored for about 5 years. The entire car is sound and virtually rust free. The paint is shot and the leather is in good condition. I was planning on using this as a parts car for a 1985 535i restoration I was doing. That car is ...

Help - My question is this. I have a 1979 323i that I am replacing all of the fluids in. In my manual, it states for the manual gear box to use SAE 80 (not a hypoid oil). Any idea what that is? I know that there are hypoid gears, but I cannot find an oil that doesn't say hypoid on it. Any suggestions as to what I should run in there? Thanks

It happened to me one week before last christmas and no one wanted to touch it at this time of year. Off the road for 4weeks and it turned out to be a minor problem which I fixed myself and not as expensive as first thought (stripped splines in the torque convertor)

Thanks. I'm going to get it up the ramp but my worry was that I would need to replace the gearbox. As it works 95% of the time I didnt think it would a major. I'm going to get it on a ramp and get the local mechanic to check it. Will take pictures once diagnosed and hopefully a fix.

Hi, Just got my first audi and its great, however i think that the gear changes could be smoother. Feels a bit notchy especially 1st and 2nd gear, more so when cold. Do you think changing the gearbox oil will help this? Its done 76000 miles and its 2001 model (new style). I have been reading about changing the gearbox oil. Is this very easy to do yourself, ...
