The research channel broadcast an excellent lecture on MRSA (methicillin-resistant S. aureus). MRSA is a dangerous infection that has killed many in hospitals over the past 40 years. Now MRSA is moving into the public. I was shocked to hear that there were over 18,000 deaths from MRSA last year -- double the number of AIDS deaths!! MRSA is usually an ugly skin infection. But the ...

Very impressive results. MRSA is a growing problem in hospitals and prisons. The aforementioned faciliities are largely government owned and run. Big market potential, IMO. This is a needed technology. Very effective to say the least. Great find, Pisa.

A new study to be released this week from Henry Ford Hospital shows a more virulent strain of MRSA has been identified. It appears to have a higher mortality rate, but this may also have to do with the fact that the average age of infection with this strain was higher. See my latest article about hand sanitizing foam to help you get in the mindset of preventing the spread of infection during ...

Anyone struggled with this? Know much about it? I have been struggling with it for over a year. I had my first sore in August of 08. Since then I have had 6 more breakouts. I have one right now and it's the most painful yet. Every time the doc just gives me antibiotics and sends me on my way. The sores heal and then come back a few months later. I have had several blood tests over the ...

Jess, sorry this keeps happening to you. I have no advise on getting rid of it BUT your insurance should cover a second opinion with a non-covered MD if there is not another one who is covered on your plan. I assume you are already seeing an Infectious Disease MD. If not see one this is certainly a case they would handle. Staph can be a real buggar to get rid of. Hope to see you better ...

I am back home after having fun times in the infectious disease ward at the hospital. Apparently my pain pod area developed MSSA (Methicillin -Sensitive Staphyloccus aureus) which is a more benign cousin of MRSA, which at first they thought I had. I went in Friday, and after 3 doctors looked at it and all said something like "O my GB" I realized this was not good. It was a bright red ...

Re: MRSA:Magic Resistant Staphylococcus aureus If the setting is Faerun prior to 4E, then I think a perfect Petrie Dish for magic-resistant bacteria might be wild magic zones. Could class it as brutal Darwinism: if magic laws are so wild in these areas, with random effects going off now and then, bacteria eventually are going to start ...

Back when I was a CNA (nursing assistant) all MRSA patients had gloves, gowns and masks outside their room... Didn't matter where the infection was. One women had a small eyebrow wound and it required the same... This was not only to protect us, but other patients we came in contact with. Now that I am in ophthalmology we have patient with it and we just use regular universal precautions...

My DD tested positiive for MRSA in the NICU. Basically we were quarantined and had to take precautions so that we didn't infect other (more sick) babies. She didn't get any treatment (they really can't do anything to get rid of it, if it's just on her skin) And there have been no problems from it. We didn't do anything different coming home and don't worry about it at all. Just remember it in ...
