I went to the gunshow Saturday and low there was a wings intact Winchester M1917 action for $150. It spoke to me "Take me home! Take me home!" The great project has begun. I am thinking of a repro milspec barrel by Krieger and repro milspec stock from Boyds, what the heck.

> My father has an M1917 with a very low serial number: 65xx. Unfortunately it is arsenal refurbished. He has had it for decades and I doubt it has been fired since refurbishing. What is it worth? Right now I am not selling his guns. Thanks, Dan

I have an old US military rifle. Sometimes referred to as the American Enfield, The official designation is: The United States Rifle, caliber .30, M1917 This was one of the most prolifically used main battle rifles of WWI. I'm looking to trade this rifle. I don't have any need to sell it, but I might entertain the idea if you don't have a trade. I don't have a place or the opportunity ...

> I have just come into possession of a M1917 Enfield. The Bore is in VG condition and the action is in great shape. It needs a little TLC in the form of a stock and extractor. I've discovered that parts are getting to be difficult to find. Does the CMP have parts for these rifles? If so, what is the availability at the North Store? If not, can you recommend a reliable...

> Greetings I just brought home a slamming Remington M1917 which was never re-arsenaled. The barrel date is 8/18, my question, is there any chance this rifle could have gone over seas, or did it just sit in a warehouse? PS I'll post photos latter today with some more info! Thanks for your time. Safe Travels Safe Tour

> I received my M1917 back after having it rebarreled with the CMP Criterion barrel. I had to relieve lots of stock wood on the forward 2-3 inches in order to get the barrel free floated. There was a decided bow in the barrel when locked down so I removed wood to get clearence. When I disassembled the rifle the original 1918 barrel was a nice royal blue too bad the ...

here's a pair of classics. one is a classic, the other is just a chassic series gun. top guy is a s&w m1917 from 1919. it's been sporterized of sorts. had the lanyard ring removed and the hole plugged, then had the wee polished out of it. and some great honking grip on it. now has the grip from the new one. but it still functions great and shoots just as well. the bottom guy is one of ...

OG stands for Ogden Arsenal. If the entire rifle went through Ogden Arsenal, then it was rebuilt. I think the bands were blue, and the rear sight, from the factory for Remington rifles. I am not an expert on this. Hey your rifle looks good and if you don't want it I know people who would. This M1917 went through Ogden Arsenal, the inspector was Elmer Keith himself....
I'm going to say one more thing about the M1 Garand, and then let it go.. I console myself with one principle thought almost all of my stuff is C&R correct. The one rifle I have that is not is my M1917 And still this old girl gains in value yearly It is my guess that the majority of the M1 garands and carbines are probably more mismatched then my Enfields Thus they are good for shooting and ...

If you look at what the airborne troops jumped into Normandy with, you see them carrying several knives at once. A machete, the switchblade shroudcutter, an M3 or M1917 or M1918 trench knife, a Garand bayonet, and sometimes the issue pocket knife. Same with the SF guys in Vietnam. Obviously the guys had to hump a lot of shit with them, but they felt the need to bring a couple of knives along ...

Good luck, I've never seen a WW-1 photo of anyone carrying a 1918 MK-1 though there are plenty of shots showing troops carrying the M1917. I'm not convinced the Mk-1 was issued in any numbers before the war ended. There are a lot of photos of WW-II troops carrying the M1918 Mk1. It was issued to the 82nd Abn early in the war among other units.
