Can anyone tell me what position is #1 on a M103 distributor cap please? I know the firing order but, I can't figure out how the wires go on the cap. I have tried searching this forum for quite a long time and the mercedesshopforum as well... Please, someone go out to their 300E and tell me which terminal on the distributor the #1 wire goes on....

Hi everybody I'm going to swap either M103.983 (3 ltr 300e) or M103.985 (3 ltr 300 e-4 matic) instead of 2.6 ltr M103.940 engine I have now. I have doubt about M103.985 going smooth into my car since I have manual transmission and M 103.985 engines are coupled with automatic transmissions. Any ideas or experiences, will it go OK or I should use M103.983? thank you in advance

Hi everybody I bought 1991 G300E 463 model with manual transmission recently and I just found out (it was not easy) that it was M 103.940 engine (2.6 ltr) in it. Since It's impossible to get M103.987 engine here and since there is already other engine installed, I'm now looking for M103 3.0 ltr engine from W124 to put in instead. So far I found 2 used engines here for sale I want to take care...

I just noticed that the vacuum item bolted to the head (2 vacuum lines attached) has a crack in it...I can't seem to find it at all in the FSM. Its in line with the Cold start valve, engine temp sensor etc... What does this do exactly? (engine side...I know it goes intake manifold other end IIRC) Wonder if that could be the noise I hear at partial throttle......

Got to do the 260E's valve stem seals today. Midway through taking break Found a few issues though... 1) Some cam wear. Oil gallery holes on the rocker arms were really bugged up which is why we believe the rocker arms are scored the way they are in the pictures... 2) Compression is good, but some cylinder leakage...35%. Not ideal, but the engine runs ...

Go poke around for some dead Porsche 911 Turbo of the same era and take the complete airflow sensor, which will have a larger bore. That will pick up some ponies and excitement.
