Don't post here often but just got back from the vet, looks like Jackson's going to eventually have to have surgery. His leg started bothering him last week after chasing a ball he just came up lame. Limping was off and on all week so we took him in this morning. Doc says his knee socket probably formed too shallow so his kneecap slips out of place. He's not even a year so it will most ...

QUESTION: I have a 4 year old chi.  She lifts her left leg and walks on 3 legs when we take her for a walk.  This doesn't happen all the time and she can run very fast when she wants to.  We took her to the vet and he said she probably has a patella luxation.  Is there anything I can do for this besides surgery?  Could I wrap the knee to support it?  What is the best way to take care of this? ...

Hi guys, So I am a little worried this morning. I woke up and noticed some redness (almost like a scratch) on Moose's right leg where his incision site is. There is also a small bump and for the life of me I can't remember if it is new or old. The incision sites looked great until I saw his right leg this morning. Is this what it would look like if the pin from his LP surgery had moved...

Hi everyone...I'm new to this site and am in need of some serious advice..... I have a Yorkie named Roxy, who is 1yrs old. For some time now we have known that she has luxating patella in both on her back legs, we didnt know this when we purchased her. Once it was discovered her vet explained what this is and what it means for her. Once she was 9 months old, her vet put her on a medication ...

Folks, I feel absolutely awful. The little guy has to be confined for 2 weeks, and then another 6 after that with limited mobility. Cujo isnt fully crate trained (he loves his crate at night and when we're not around) and its horrible hearing him whimper all day. When I try and take the bugger out he wants to sprint around like a madman. The cone, the cast...makes me feel like crap. Any ...

Lilith had 2 LPs repaired and a follow up surgery today (imbrication failed on lateral side of one leg). Anyway, we spoke to her vet who is a wonderful man with specialization in orthopedics. He said it is his belief that recovering dogs are not to be completely on cage-rest for the entire recovery period (approximately 6-8 weeks). Of course, he still says no stairs, no running, no jumping....

My doggie is suffering from the Luxating Patella at the moment. but he is not even 2 year old. I am wondering when would be a better time for the surgery. Should I wait until he's fully grown up or the sooner the better?

Hi all, Has anyone here been through this surgery? I was wondering what to expect as far as recovery time, etc. My Bo is going in this Thursday for for another exam and probably surgery, he's been to 3 vets, all have said close to the same thing, he's at a 3 to 4. He's got all the signs of needing the operation, and you can feel the bones grinding against each other. I hate to put him ...

I've been reading a lot of posts on this site concerning luxating patella. My question is... is there any way to decrease the chances that my puppy will have a luxating patella in the future? I know I should prevent her from jumping up and down a lot. Would giving her cosequin and glucosamine supplements be OK? Or should she only get those supplements if she does have luxating patella? ...

oh and the earlier you can catch the problem AND have it corrected, the better the chance arthritis wont set in. If you know surgery will be needed, do it now!
