Okay, so Murphy started limping on his back left leg about a month ago. The vet said that is what he has and that we should watch it for now and if it gets really bad then he will have to go to a specialist to get surgery. Does anyone know what would constitute really bad? The vet told us if he is limping on it often. Right now he is limping on it for a few minutes every few days. Also...

My baby Chi Penny has been diagnosed with a luxating patella on her right hind leg. She does fairly well until running or exerting herself, then she limps. Her surgeon sais we will operate in early December, after a thorough exam by 2 specialists and X rays confirmed the need. I have read alot and been shown what will be done but have anxiety deluxe!!! Don't post here often but just got back from the vet, looks like Jackson's going to eventually have to have surgery. His leg started bothering him last week after chasing a ball he just came up lame. QUESTION: I have a 4 year old chi.  She lifts her left leg and walks on 3 legs when we take her for a walk.  This doesn't happen all the time and she can run very fast when she wants to.  We took her to the vet and he said she probably has a patella luxation.  Is there anything I can do for this besides surgery?  Could I wrap the knee to support it?  What is the best way to take care of this? ...

Hi guys, So I am a little worried this morning. I woke up and noticed some redness (almost like a scratch) on Moose's right leg where his incision site is. There is also a small bump and for the life of me I can't remember if it is new or old. The incision sites looked great until I saw his right leg this morning. Folks, I feel absolutely awful. The little guy has to be confined for 2 weeks, and then another 6 after that with limited mobility. Cujo isnt fully crate trained (he loves his crate at night and when we're not around) and its horrible hearing him whimper all day. Lilith had 2 LPs repaired and a follow up surgery today (imbrication failed on lateral side of one leg). Anyway, we spoke to her vet who is a wonderful man with specialization in orthopedics. He said it is his belief that recovering dogs are not to be completely on cage-rest for the entire recovery period (approximately 6-8 weeks). Of course, he still says no stairs, no running, no jumping....

My doggie is suffering from the Luxating Patella at the moment. but he is not even 2 year old. I am wondering when would be a better time for the surgery. Should I wait until he's fully grown up or the sooner the better?

A friend just emailed to let me know her 6 mo. old Chi has Luxating Patella .  Does anyone know if there is a treatment other than surgery that can help??  Thanks Sandy
