14 team dynasty league w/ 18 keepers and I am trying to decide between keeping Lowell and Chipper. Too close to call for me, just wondering what other opinions are out there.

I see where Theo Epstein, the GM of the Red Sox is seeking a trade of Mike Lowell to Texas and will probably move Youklis to 3rd base. Any Red Sox fans care to comment?

after asking for ages for CCA, doing folow up letters etc, lowell seemed to think it was a formality getting docs needed, and reminded me each time they sent me an 'update' letter.. but apparantly not! just had a letter earlier today (gasp- y'day actually, would ya look at the time!), advising they are closing their file.. 'until such time docs required may be found etc..

The Red Sox have agreed in principle with the Rangers to a trade that will send popular third baseman Mike Lowell to Texas for catcher Max Ramirez, according to a baseball source. A money issue has also been resolved, the source said. Lowell will make $12 million this season, and the Sox will pay Texas some of his salary. The remaining hurdle is medical clearance, usually a formality in most ...

Sox are agreeing to pay $9 million of Lowell's salary. This could be great for both clubs. If Lowell can stay healthy, he can add some consistency in that lineup and play multiple positions. Plus, the Rangers don't have to pay Lowell a penny. The Red Sox get a potentially great backup catcher. Max Ramirez had a fantastic year in 2008 in AA, but was less than stellar in 09. However, he's ...

Yeah I am coming around Down. I mean you are right he is slow and yes I was pissed how he just walked down to first base when if he even jogged he would have been safe at 1st. Very true, this was Mike Lowell 's last year with the Red Sox period and again the more I think about it, the more I realize if that was the case then the sox would have gotten no one for ...

FL, "$13m for a backup? Kind of pricey no? If you were to platoon Lowell and Ortiz at DH, you'd be commiting double that for your DH duties...not a recipe for succes." If the Sox are eating $9M of Lowell's salary, as reported, I don't think your presentation of finances jives with reality. For an incremental $3M, I'd say that the latitude of having a Lowell...

rodstero4 wrote: Thats a nice fun fact bdale, but IMHO, completely besides the point. Lowell has a .324 OBP against righties last year, but guess what? Thats part of the reason they're trying to trade Mike Lowell away. The more I think about it, the less likely it seems that the sox will sign Beltre as their 3B. They just got rid of Alex Gonzalez, who plays very good defense at a ...

...............and Boston has to pay out $ 8-9 million to Texas to accept Lowell. Couple that with the money Beltre is going to get and increase for a LF (Bay or Holliday) and I have to believe, the Redsox' payroll is going up from last year. I wonder if Mike Lupica knows about this.

Assuming we could trade Lowe straight up for Lowell...there's no rule that says we can't flip Lowell to someone else. What teams need a 3B/DH? He'd be an upgrade for about a third of the teams in MLB, and if we ate a couple mill of his contract, he'd be even more trade-worthy.

I'd have to say I'd be happy simply because Lowell would be easier to trade. Based on all the reports I see it's either a trade to the Rays for Burrell or the M's for Carlos Silva, ouch!!! That is raking us over the coals!!!!

Looks as though Texas is being really busy this off season and they are about to get Lowell. Thank God is all I have to say about that. Rosenthal's tweet.
