Hi I was just wanting some opinions before I made a purchase. I am looking to add some longfield or "other brand" birfs to my cruiser. I just did a 4-link and 14" coilovers in the rear. I am also adding some 1.5" wheel spacers to my rig with 35 x 12.5 swampers, and lockers. My knuckles started to leak so I need to change the seals any way. I have never broken a birf, but now I am running an ...

I have a 71 fj-40,sbc,4wdb,t400,ARB's,4"sua,longfields,35" STT's--I think that's enough info for you! I have an OEM 3-speed t-case that slips out of low range on decel. I still have the vac shifter for 4WD, and the underdash lever for hi-lo. It does not seem to happen in 4-hi, only 4-lo. I have checked the linkage, and it is adjusted properly. If you manually hold the knob it will stay in, but if...

I had longfields in my 40, and it was nice to not worry about any breakage. It seems like all I do is service my front axle, and the way I wheel means I need to service it every time I go out. I'd like to have some "absorbtion" of shock in my axle, so the thought is to use chromoly axles in combination with stock birfs. Since the chromoly birfs are too soft for street driving in an ...

Ok, per the recomendations of the gurus here, I am going to go with the Longfield 30 spline chromo set and the chromo hub gears. I'm planning on using the IFS hubs (Aisin) off my '95 4runner, from what I understand these will work with the Longfields? Just want to make sure I order things right the first time. (This is of course the '76 axle with discs).

There is no reason to replace the birfields with Chromoly (Longfields) on an 80 series Landcruiser if you are not running 37" + tires. You will also find that many of the aftermarket STOCK birfields are of less quality anyway than the factory units that are likely still sitting in the axle. They are plenty strong enough to survive under an expedition 80 series. It is not unheard of to ...

I have a friend that did the conversion on his 96, which both his and mine are built very similar (4in,bumpers,35's, sliders, etc.). His isn't any faster while climbing hills nor does he get any noticeable mileage improvement (they get what they get). The only benefit that I can see is the front isn't turning. Slightly different feeling while driving. Believe me, I was very against the ...

Purchased a 40 that the PO had just done a SBC conversion & there was something wrong w/the clutch. He commented that It worked for about 100 miles then it quit. The PO used a racing steel bellhousing, I took it apart and found the Pilot bushing was wallowed out from wear. Evidently they didn't center the trans input shaft w/the crankshaft when they drilled and cut the hole in the bellhousing. ...
