I hunt around the Mcdougal lakes and stoney river areas near Isabella for years. They have been clearcutting/logging diferrent sections around there the last five years. My question is some of these roads/trails have been there for years and now last weekend they have had heavy equipment in these areas and digiing holes three to four feet apart and at least three feet deep so you can't drive or ...

The USFS allows those roads to be cut for loggers' access. And they periodically review which roads should remain and which should be taken out after the logging is finished. They are weighing recreational access against a lot of other factors. In some cases they'll leave the roads, which then eventually may become numbered USFS roads put on maps. In other cases they'll tear them out, often ...

I went deer hunting in New Light yesterday.  As they often do, the NCWRC plants the side logging roads with rye and wheat grass for the critters.  I have hunted here for 10-11 years now (with 1 or 2 off in between), and never seen what I saw yesterday.   These guys actually plowed the main loggin paths, almost all the way to the lake also.  Ankle deep mud, from the parking lot off of ...

...and besides I think this is a situation where we should all be thankful instead of bitching about it.  It's stated right in the trail description that the situation is precarious and at any time WRC can easily cut off more access or all access.

I had my first opportunitity to get my YZF out on some wicked long and rolling logging roads this past weekend. I went up in Maine to an area called Kokadjo. The old logging and snowmobile trails are incramentally being opened up to allow the legal use of ATV's and dirtbikes. To put it simple what a friggin' BLAST I had tearing down the dirt roads with a big bore. The YZF behaved flawlessly !! ...

Oconto County, around the mountain area is a very nice area for grouse! It's less than an hour north of GB. Lots of public land w/logging roads to walk or drive on. Very nice colors this time of year too! Good luck!

That would be cool. There are a few old mining towns out here that are accessable by logging roads, would make for a pretty good day trip. Not really rough wheeling but the odds of finding some tough trails along the way would be pretty good.

I bought it for commuting in the winter months. My commute is 21 miles round trip. I have fenders on it and the Cross Blasters tires that came with it. I also occasionally take it out to Capitol forrest and will climb on logging roads a few thousand feet. I think I am going to put some Scwalbe touring tires on it soon. I also have my LBS swap out the cranket for a compact which sure nice ...
