An interesting dicussion point from Saturday's Barix support group meeting was the tendency for blood work to show an elevation in liver enzymes. At 6 months, mine were up on this last round of blood work. Is this fairly common? Have any of you longer term RNY'ers had to deal with this in any way? Dr. P. says that she will track my labs for the next 3 months, and if they are still ...

Is a high liver enzyme count (not dreadfully high, but higher than a 'normal' - aka kibble fed - dog) a sign of a deficiency or overload of some nutrient/vitamin fed in the raw diet? Is there something I should feed less of? or more of? The dogs get a lot of whole poultry items (hens, quails) and lots of fattier red meat like lamb. They really do not enjoy fish, though I have been told ...

Hi Gang....I am officially freaked out...I have on-line access to all my lab results via my health plan. It's awesome because I can check all my results days before I ever get a letter in the mail saying everything is normal. I can also track my B 12 levels etc.... Well my AST...liver enzyme is elevated this time. It has always been in the normal range. So, stupid Sherlock Holmes that I am, ...

Hi, I was just in the ED with my kidneys aching, and wanted to share my labs and ask about them. I was in ED treatment inpatient/partial hospitalization Jun-Aug this year and now down to outpatient, but starting to struggle again. All my electrolyte panels keep showing my liver enzymes LOW...yes, not high, and wondering what that is all about, and if anyone else has had that, ...

I have elevated liver enzymes. A year ago, my doc sent me for tests. They found that my gall bladder wasn't working and that I have fatty liver. The catscan showed that my liver was enlarged and displaced by fat. I then remembered that I had a catscan when I was 10 or 11 years old... it showed that I had fatty liver then as well. I was NOT obese at the time. My gastroenterologist told me that ...

Just a question that popped up to me, as i am waiting for my 1st Remicade infusion after 2 hours. How frequently do you have blood tests to monitor your status (CBC, liver, kidney etc...) while on Remicade? Is it monthly like with Imuran?

Mine are still elevated, but not nearly as high as they once were. Maybe, because I am not loosing at the rate I once was. I'm going to ask when I see him. I'm just glad that they are down. B12 is still really elevated, I'm sure I'll hear about that. Wasting my money on B-12 vitamins... oh well it could be worse. Lynn, you look fantastic, when are you going to put a picture up to go ...

When liver enzymes are present in the blood in higher than normal levels it indicates that the liver is damaged and leaking enzymes that normally should be contained within the liver into the blood stream. The word "damage" is pretty scary, but remember that a paper cut is "damage" too. Sometimes the situation is pretty much temporary and the body can restores normalcy "by itself". In the case ...
