Dear Paula, The Alzheimer’s Association can be a resource to you for both education and support. The Alzheimer’s Association works with families touched by all types of dementia. You can contact your local Chapter at 800.272.3900 and ask for support groups in your area. Keep in mind that although the most prevalent type of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease there are many caregivers with loved ones...

My husband was formally diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2005 and Parkinson's in January of this year. He now is about a Stage 6. After reading about Estelle Getty dying with Lewy Body Dementia, I have done some research on it. Evidently, it is not a rare disease and many people with alzheimers and Parkinson's are misdiagnosed and really do have LBD. My husband has many of the symptoms of LBD....

Well, what I can tell you is that my mother was mis-diagnosed by her primary before we finally learned she had FrontoTemporal Dementia - certainly a horse of a different color! There is a Social Worker, LCSW, who works very actively with dementia families and patients through the Alz's Assn. In years past, she worked with GeroPsych. Very skilled, very experienced. Hi. Lily, My husband was told 2 years ago he has either Lewy Body Dementia or Alzheimers. The Dr. started hom on medicne last year to keep it from getting worse. So far he is doing good unless he missed a does. Then he gets confused.very mad at everyone. I have taken him to Mayo Clinic in Fla. but need a Dr. closer.   Recs: 3 PNAS article on PD an interesting article covering frontotemporal dementia(FTD)/PD..... the fact that "FTD appears only in a subset of PD" is clear indication that what is currently classed as PD is clearly more than one disease, and therefore cannot be sucessfully attacked as though it were a unitary disease.... some real work should be expended on careful ...
