Does levemir start to lose its potency after 28 days like lantus or will it last a bit longer?

I am supposed to see my doc in the am. I was threatened to start on levemir injections the last time I saw him. My A1C was staying around 7.2. My weight has not significantly changed. I have a question..if he should put me on it, I was wondering if anyone could tell me something about it. Does it make you gain weight?...Betsy

Every time I inject Levemir , I get a red , itching area about an inch around the spot. It lasts about 10 miuntes and then goes away. I mentioned this to my Endo and said to change the vial of insulin. HUH???? Well this happens with every vial....... Your opinion is needed , as I am going to talk to him about this again and would really like some informed input...Thankyou....

How long does it take for levemir to go to work in one's system? I know that novolog is fast acting and levemir is a slow and steady acting insulin. How long does it stay in the body? Some have said lantus lasts about 24 hrs., but levemir not so long. Morgan was taking 1 unit of levemir in the a.m. and that was it. Over the last couple weeks his numbers after 4 pm and throughout the night ...

Hi, my endocrinologist switched me a few months ago to levemir since lantus went bad quicker and my insurance is not great. SInce I have been on the levemir I seem to be so hungry all the time and have noticed my blood sugars are running higher the last few months. I take novolog 4 times a day and split the levemir betweeen am and before bed. So don't know if anyone else has run into this ...

Just read that on another thread -- is that it's advantage over Lantus? And its downside being staying power, so you have to give it twice?

Are you taking any basal insulin like Lantus or Levemir? If your not, ask your doctor why not. LADA's honeymoons can be pretty dynamic as their beta cells die and regenerate. Finding and staying on rates is a constant struggle for anyone, but you guys can be really tough. It could also be stress, sickness, infection, a seasonal change, activity change, or the alignment of stars. I'd up ...

I'm curious to find out if anyone here had to lower their basal requirement way more than expected when you started the pump. The reason I ask is that on MDI I was taking 50 units of Levemir a day split 25 units at 7am and 25 units at 7pm. Since starting the pump I have had to set my basal at 12 units per day (.5 units per hour) to keep from going low. Obviously this is a major change in ...
