I'm traveling LAX - BKK around December 18, and returning around Jan. 3. Normally I would be on Thai premium economy, but since that no longer exists on this route, I'm looking at EVA Elite class. The late December fare is outrageous - around $3500 RT! I flew business class on EVA to BKK a couple years ago for about that price. I see the fare is much lower in November, but ...

I want to hike down into (and I already have a reservation!) to camp at Bright Angel in late December. Has anyone done this before? Is it true there no fires allowed at the sites? My main concerns are: ice on the trail to and from Bright Angel and the likelyhood of snow at the rim and/ or bottom. Any feedback would be great! Thanks!

I just wanted to know what the typical weather is like for late December, I see that Giants Stadium has no roof, does it usually rain/snow that time of year? What is the water temperature like at La Jolla Cove in late December? I plan on diving during a visit during the holidays and need to plan accordingly. I have an Atomic ST1 reg and unsure whether I should get the cold water seal installed. TIA.

We are booked for a 4 night stay at Port Orleans from Dec 27-Dec 31. Problem is, I cannot find airfare for 4 (3 adults, 1 child) for less than $450.00/each and these are early morning/late night flights with one stop. What tips do you have? Will the prices come down? We've thought of doing Amtrak- has anyone does this? We don't want to drive. TIA!

My brother and I did this hike many years ago in mid January. We froze our butts off at night at the bottom of the canyon. Cold air sinks. It snowed on the rim while we at the bottom forcing us to hike through 2-3 feet of fresh powder on the last few miles. It was still one of the most memorable trips of my life.

You will always get Screwed flying late december/early jan. I had the same problem. No more PE on Thai for December (and crappy flight times) so I decided to go back to flying EVA Elite. EVA usually has 2 prices for each class on their website. Once the cheaper price seats are gone, then only the higher remains. That is what has happened to you and I. I looked at leaving 12/20, ...
