LSI Logic SAS and VMXNET3

I have just discovered that, when you upgrade the virtual machine hardware to 7 on a Windows 2008 Server x64 it doesn´t change to LSI Logic SAS and VMXNET3. Can this be changed in a rather painless way or am I stuck with this?

( virtual devices for scsi0 , scsi1, scsi2 , scsi3 and ethernet0 - ethernet9 can be changed by editing the parameter in the vmx. But this is not painfree - if you change the nic to vmxnet3 you probably get another phantom-nic that must be removed again. Also vmxnet3 only makes sense in a few scenarios so I would not change that just because vmxnet3 is newer. ...

afaik rhel5 should detect the LSI card out of the box. after that, you might have to enable the module modprobe -l |grep -i lsi might provide a clue as to which module to enable

The (seemingly) almost identical Dell PERC version seems to *not* have your issue. Our "lspci" match all but the "rev 02" part... 0f:08.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068 PCI-X Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 01) This one requires *no* external driver help in order to get CentOS working.
