When, from where, and how did it enter the English language? It's obvious that it's from a Romance language ("lingo" sounds a lot like the word for "tongue"/"language" in Latin/Spanish/Portuguese/Catalan/French/Italian/Ro manian), but the form under which that it appears in English is unusual, since English tends to adopt a French-style ending to Romance/Latin words it adopts.

I just got an Octopus BH-100 protein skimmer (I'm very new to tanks, in case my lingo isn't quite right,) probably a week ago. It was doing fine for the first couple of days, very green, but all of the sudden yesterday (well, not all of the sudden.
