How can the kinetic energy of a planet are calculated. I know the KE equation but how can I calculated the mass momentum (average speed) of the mass of a rotating body.

Ok this has been baffling me. As many of you know I am just getting into bowhunting. I have been doing my research on equipment and sales people at archery shops keep talking about Kinetic energy for killing an animal. I have also read many internet posts in length about this topic. This makes no sense to me at all to be honest. To start off I am not an expert by any means on this matter...

Hey! So, as I understand, kinetic energy of a moving object is proportional to its velocity squared. So I'm wondering where these inconsistencies come from, and how they are resolved: So, say two objects of mass M are travelling, with reference to a stationary observer, one in the left hand direction and one in the right hand direction, both at ...

Easy to get an average speed. You know the orbital circumference and the length of the year. It's just distance /time. that gives orbital KE. For the rotational KE you will have to assume constant density (not the real world) and use the rotational speed at the equator. Rotational inertia of a sphere is I = 2/5 mr^2 http://www.physicsforums.com/showthr...16#post2506 416

I believe the rankine cycle and brayton cycle works like that. Steam/air causes a turbine to spin which cuts a magnetic field and induces an output emf. EDIT: Sorry, I now read the other posts, ^^ that was not what you wanted to know. Sorry.
