and the argument being made about not being able to purchase a single kilowatt-hour, wouldn't this be a great opportunity to buy individual KWh from a neighbor, with an extension cord? They've already got an account set up, and if you pay them before you take it, you can run your electric blankets or space heaters without having to pay the deposit, setup or reconnect charges, or back bills. Based on our previous bills, that could make nearly $400 for a 1,700 sq ft house, if the weather is really nasty. Less if not. I've looked around for lower rates, but have found nothing significantly better from the major companies, and the small ones can go out of business at a moment's notice and throw you on some kind of emergency plan that runs upward of 30 cents a kwh. It's never happened because there's only so much energy you can squeeze out of a solar panel. Wind and nuclear both have about the same production cost, 4 cents per kilowatt-hour.
