After three years of looking into a forge and trying to interpet the temperature of the steel by the color of the steel, I did something very different. I fired up my brand new kiln, heated my blade to the EXACT temp that the steel manafacture recomended and then quenched it. Then I did this several more times, closely monitering the temp of my quench oil and the kiln. No cracks, no warping, no ...

I had a Paragon 24D with argon gas injection and although it's a nice premise, it didn't work so I'm looking at another kiln. I thinking of an Evenheat 22.5 and I would like some opinions on Evenheat and some suggestions on other kiln manufacturers as well. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.....

I bought I little kiln (outside about 13" hex shaped and about as tall). I am working in a wood floor shed 12' x 8' and wonder about where to place this little kiln for safety.  It has a metal stand.  Is that good enough?  What should I place under or near it if not?  Thanks Answer Dear Deb,     Thank you for your recent question. Welcome to the club friend I realised early on that the prettiest knife in the world wasn't worth a if it hadn't been heat treated properly, but even an ugly knife with good steel, well heat treated, would cut forever That was why a Even Heat KF22.5 was the first thing I spent money on for my knife making hobby after files and abrasive paper. The thought of an insulated shipping container, heated by an OWB has crossed my mind for a firewood kiln. I'd have to be moving a lot more wood than the little I sell now to make it profitable. With a 10 cord kiln , another 10 cords ready to be dried and 10 cords coming out I'd sure need more space or I'd be neck deep in firewood pretty quick. If firewood was my ...
