What is ketone? I asked my Dr. and she said I don't have to worry about that and changed subject and I still don't know what is. Do only type 1 's get it? My meter sometimes says ketone after I test.

Hi all, There are some molecules that can suppress the analyte signal in mass spectrometer (MS) when using electrospray ionization (ESI) as ionization process. My question is: do amine and ketone/aldehyde suppress analyte signal in electrospray (ESI) if they are present? Thank you. B

We have just used our blood ketone meter for the first time. Her result was 170mg/dl. Her throat hurts and her belly hurts. We used a urine test strip also and it came up close to the lowest or none but it was hard to tell the difference. Now I'm assuming that was her blood sugar and it's not set up right??? Does anyone know the ranges that are normal/non-normal?? Thanks

Equimolar amounts of the aldehyde (4-chlorobenzaldehyde) and ketone (4-bromoacetophenone) were used, coupled with excess of NaOH. Crude product obtained had a gummy consistency, green-grey colour and a slight minty smell. Recrystallization via hot Ethanol yielded a white crystal powder (odourless). Melting point has not yet been determined. I know it is not Perilla, Menthofurane, nor pulegon. ...

When it comes to ketone protocol were you taught how to do a lot of things that way you would stay away from the hospital? I called Peoria 3x on Friday because of ketones. I had never had to deal with them in a sick kid before. I kept asking the nurse what is the sign to take him to the hospital and she said, "I am teaching you how to keep him from going to the hospital. The hospital will put him...

How many calories in a Ketone? I was just kinda wondering if part of the "metabolic advantage" might be the actual physical loss of calorie dense molecules in our breath and urine through ketones.

good morning, I would like to make a TMS ketone (TMS-CO-R) Is there an easiest way than : 1) R-CHO : protection with SH-CH2CH2-SH to make the diathiane. 2) BuLi / TMS 3) deprotection. By the way, if you add a grignard reagent on a TMS ketone, do you make a Brook rearrangement? Thanks

For those of you in Eastern or Southeastern Mass: any advice on which pharmacies will order the Precision Xtra ketone strips? I've been using CVS for 3 years, but they now say they are no longer able to get them through their supplier. Before I start cold-calling the few other options I have (WalMart, Rite Aid, Oscos (at Shaws supermarket) and Stop and Shop Pharmacy), I thought I'd ask ...

What kind of reaction does involve in Wolff-Kishner reaction??? From the addition of the hydrazine, 2HNNH2, to a ketone or an aldehyde which yields first the hydrazone anion before yielding an alkane... I need your help Edit: please don't abuse formatting, jumping letters in many colors don't help in reading the question.

Hi all, How can you add H2 across the alkene part of an a,b-unsaturated ketone, to make simply the ketone? I take it that you cannot use your standard hydrogenation with H2/ catalyst; would that be because it can add to the carbonyl as well, to produce the alcohol? I assume that conjugate addition has to occur instead, but I'm stuck trying to think of an appropriate soft nucleophile which would ...

Hi there, Just wondering if anyone had an idea why a reaction of Girard P hydrazine (pyridine with CCONHNH2 attached) would not react with cyclohexanone or 2-cyclohexen-1-one. Girard P hydrazine is a derivatising agent that replacing ketone groups. I am derivatising steroids and am successfully doing so by heating for 30mins at 70C and I am trying to find an internal standard. Thanks all for ...

Guys, I'm installing a set of ghost ring sights on a Remington 870 and the instructions call for MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) for cleaning the front sight platform prior to gluing the new sight on. Where can I find MEK? I haven't seen or heard about MEK since college chemistry. I figure acetone would probably serve the purpose, but would like to follow the instructions if I can. Thanks!...

Hi Kristin, I have a year old son diagnosed with PKU at birth. He is on a low protein diet as all PKU kids are. I am sorry that you have gone through so much but like you said the good is that you finally know what your little one has and that it's manageable. Never easy but yet, so much to be grateful for. I don't know if anybody on this board has been diagnosed with the same thing but ...

All this chemistry stuff goes over my head, so while I was waiting to hear back from a chemist friend, I decided to google 'tobacco' along with each of the chemicals detected in the crystal light bottle individually. And guess what? Every single one on the list is associated with tobacco. 2-Butanol - Solvent, also converted to Butanone- Found in tobacco methyl ethyl ...
