I think Itachi was right when he said that Jiraiya would be able to defeat at least one of them in part I. If you think about it, he has a lot of OP abilities of his own. Also Jiraiya wouldn't be stupid enough to allow Itachi to prep for MS.

They all fight as IC as possible, and all three have access to everything they've shown. Jiraiya starts at base form, and the location takes place on a huge sandy battlefield. Jiraiya only knows that Sasori is a puppet user, and knows that Deidara is an explosives user. Sasori and Deidara know of Jiraiya's techniques, and about SM. Deidara has four bags of clay. Who wins?

Simple question... what if Jiraiya chose to escape in the fight against Pein instead of stay to "find out his secret"? His message was that the real one isn't among them. However, that didn't help as much to fight the realms and they could have used his skills to hold off Pein until Naruto showed up from Sage training. I just watched Jiraiya's fight with Pein in the Anime, for the first time (I had already read it in the Manga, though). And WOW. In the Manga, Kishi made a great job making it, you know, sad and sentimental. But in the Anime... Man... I just got really sad and missing Jiraiya. The intro song (Sign by Flow, I believe) also helps to the general feeling of his fight and death. Now I'm depressed lol....
