I've found that depending on how much my system is being used, latency can develop. So be sure to turn "background" programs, that aren't needed off. Also, if you're using a laptop, be sure you're running in "high performance" mode vs "power saver" mode. In the case where there's "variable" latency during a single recording, if you can tell what's fine, and what's delayed, you can still fix...
