Hi I need to read approximately 10 bytes out from a 1.6 gig file on the hard drive. This needs to be done very frequently and so it has to be quick. I understand that using Interrupts is slower than writing your own read routine. However I haven't found any examples on the net of a non-interrupt IO routine. Does anyone know of anything that may be useful? Many thanks in advance

My Linux Kernel 2.6.27.2 "cat /proc/interrupts" shows 3 Errors. What could cause this? Can this be caused by parity errors (I have ECC memory)? Does this mean that my operating system is unstable?

So....if we decided to riot in the U.S. and started throwing rocks, beating up security forces, burning police cars and generally destroying public property. Would he say the same thing???? Do you think our police force would start shooting people? I tend to think things would look just about the same. I seem to remember some protests that happen in Philadelphia this past summer that ...

On the 4P box, 2.6.32-git10 boots and shows 4 CPU's, 2.6.32-git12 boots and shows 1 CPU, 2.6.32-git15 to 2.6.33-rc1-git3 1 CPU and lots of oops, continues with something like "Sending NMI interrupts to CPU's", [udev] unexpectedly returned with status 0x0100 [udev] failed while handling /devices/pci000:00 -----etc--- same for other devices. Unable to capture via serial console as...

Why does 10TV ALWAYS have to interrupt Nancy Grace? It's ridiculous! Can't you guys wait until the show is over? Nobody interrupts 10TV, so why do you guys do it? Show some respect!

ACPI is a confusing place. It's often thought of as a suspend/resume thing, though if you're unlucky you've learned that it's also involved in boot-time configuration because it's screwed up your interrupts again. But ACPI's also heavily involved in the runtime management of the system, and it's necessary for there to be a mechanism for the hardware to alert the OS of events. enell ...

Hello, I have annoying audio problems with the VLC player on a Intel i7 860, Asus P755D-E Pro, WinXP 32Bit system. The sound drops out or interrupts every few seconds for a short time (however the audio stream stays in sync). I only have these problems with the VLC player (tried 4 other players). I'm sure that VLC especially has problems with the "VIA High Definition Audio" onboard sound chip ...

First, I'd like to say this is a most aggravating and ridiculous bug: WMP should not interrupt any on-going playback for any reason when inserting a DVD. The fine play on the word by Microsoft about "it's not autoplay, it's autorun" is precisely what prevents them from understanding the users' perspective. It's already hard to find this Autoplay Control Panel (that specific DVD option should ...
