Hi everyone,   I just upgraded my X200 to 4GB of RAM and noticed that the Intel integrated graphics adapter grabs a whole GB, which I think is too much. Is there any way to tell the integrated graphics which amount of memory it's allowed to use?   Thanks in advance.

Hello, I have just bought a new T400 with the ATI discrete graphics. My laptop is configured with 4GB ram and loaded with Windows 7 32bit enterprise edition. I'm expecting my usable memory to be close to 3.3-3.5 gigs of memory, but instead found that i only have 2.5 gigs available due to the intel 4500 utilizing 1 gig of memory. How can i restrict the amount of memory the intel graphics can ...

I have an Asus Pundit-R that is working pretty well with Windows 7, apart from the poor performance of the inbuilt ATI Radeon 9100IGP graphics. To try to improve on this I added a Powercolor HD2400 Pro in one of the PCI slots as a cheap upgrade. Unfortunately, I can't disable the integrated graphics - there's no BIOS option for that (and yes, I have got the latest BIOS!). All I can do is ...

First, thanks to all the helpful posts and advice on here I managed to build my first machine (i7 920) without anything going wrong...so far. Krikkit, thanks for advice on the modem/router to get (is fine once I figured out I needed to reset it from previous owner's settings - doh!). For my next question...I'm likely next to build a work machine for a friend with a budget of about £400. Can ...

Hi guys looking to build my own poker computer soon (!). I wont be doing any gaming at all only ~12 tabling, HEM etc. I also want to have the ability to go to 2 monitors if I want. Is the integrated graphics card you get with the cheap motherboards good enough for this purpose? This is the sort of thing ive been looking at; http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139780...

One of our readers has indicated that he has the Intel Core i5 running on a Intel H55 chipset. To his surprise, the 3DMark Vantage score running a 3.33GHz Core i5 processors outperforms a AMD 785G+965BE processor. It is interesting to note that it beats the AMD 785G flat, with a score of close to 1.8X that of the AMD 785G with a similar clocked processor. Although this is an early result,...

Windows 7 Beta

Power consumption is at least 30-40% greater when using the switchable graphics set to "Integrated" vs. disabling switchable graphics in BIOS and forcing Integrated graphics. This is based on current/wattage reported by the battery monitor, confirmed by subjective battery capacity (run time). I do not detect any greater power consumption when switchable is set to "Discrete". I have confirmed ...

turning off switchable graphics in the bios is the only way to "see" more than 3GB AFAIK. My Vista 32 with switchable turned off shows just over 3GB of available memory, which according to MS is about all we can expect due to mapping by various components (including the ATI card's own memory) The "cause" section of the following MS article explains quite nicely why: http://support.microsoft....

Hi,   the problem with switchable graphics is annoying, especially because I use linux all the time. It seems like that there is a workaround for linux users:   http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7933876&pos tcount=11     It's a linux kernel hack that switches off the dedicated (ATI) graphics. I haven't tested yet, but hope to do so soon, to see if the battery life will improve.
