Looking for information on minimum insulation requirements that may have been recently introduced for 'dwellings'. What are the min requirements, to what do they apply to - only new builds or extended dwellings. And what are the dates of application of new regulations ? Thanks in advance for any light shed on this issue!

Do you have to have some sort of ventilation in your roof space, especially if you have loft insulation ? I'm thinking particularly of an old house. I'm just wondering if without ventilation loft insulation may result in problems. Don't know why I've got this in my head, .....must have heard about it from somewhere but am I mixing it up with something else ??... Any advice welcome

In the many threads about condensation and dampness. I have noticed that people are saying, that in this day and age, they still apparently do not have any roof insulation. I thought that it might be an interesting exercise to do a poll on the subject. If anyone is interested. 1) No insulation. 2) 50mm to 100mm. 3) 100mm to 150mm 4) 150mm to 200mm 5) Over ...

Looked at some classroom type buildings for a church yesterday. The buildings were built in the 60's. They had low slope roofs of 2:12. The roofs were standing metal seam or tar and gravel. On the interior, they had cathedral ceilings with an exposed fiber / grass mat insulation visible from the room interiors. This fiber mat covered the under structure of the roof and extended to the ...

Not much I would have thought if you have a good thickness of insulation, normally you board so you can have somewhere to store stuff/make it easier to walk up there. If you get the chipboard attic boards they tongue and grove together, they are small enough to handle easily, so installation is easier if that helps.

Anyone had any success (or failures :( ) removing spray foam insulation from their carpet? When my dh put in the window a/c unit he sprayed that foam insulation around it and managed to drip it down the wall and on the carpet. It's not the kind we usually got that just pops off, it's some other kind. The bottle said after awhile it may "chip" off or need to be mechanically removed, whatever that...

I have just completed the hearth slab and the vermiculite/cement layer with one minor problem:I was unable to fully complete the vermiculite/cement layer (instead of the five inches , I only have one inch). I cannot continue with the insulation because I am unable to find the vermiculite. Question1 : Can I use the fornobravo ceramic blanket on top of the one inch inslation layer I already ...

Hi all, I'm looking at a castable insulation to go under my hearth and wondering if anyone can tell me if my maths is in the ballpark. The insulation that I am looking at has a K value of 0.18 at 500C, and I understand that R = 1/K, so the R value per inch = 1/0.18 = 5.5. The FB plans call for 4 inches of vermiculite concrete mixture. Google seems to be telling me that loose vermiculite ...

"It is also misleading to suggest that an insulation material can be as effective as insulation in stopping the transfer of infra-red energy without qualifying the conditions where that might be true. Solid insulation absorbs the infra-red energy and transfers it slowly by conduction..." That's what I tried to infer when I wrote "...the face of the board may heat up from absorbing some of ...

"Radiant passes right through fiberglass." 90 to 95% of "radiant" infra-red light energy is absorbed by fiberglass, cellulose, foam boards and other common solid construction materials that lack a
