Also it pointed to me to the Widow Parent Allowance - my partner died when our son was 6 months old and I did not receive any money - though I did try for the allowance and this was rejected because we were not married - can ...

My dad had a stroke and is unable to work and is claiming income support. He had a letter from his pension company saying he has the option to take his pension early (he is 52) If he does this will it affect his income support payments? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Gemma You will be able to rent a property, I work in benefits, and pay claims for similar circumstances all of the time. Your Council will have a department that may be able to offer advice on private landlords. It helps a lot that you have saved your deposit. As you are on Income Support you will get the local housing allowance for your area (housing benefit) You can check ...

Yes, it should be paid early. Because Boxing Day lands on a Saturday this year, the Monday immediately afterwards (the 28th) is a Bank Holiday. So your payment should go into the bank on or around the 24th of December. Give the Jobcentre a quick call, they should be able to advise you as they will have details of the Christmas payment dates. The same will also go for Tax Credits ...

They will be coming to see your Mother to check on her standard of living. This is normal procedure when claims are made. My Father had a visit when he claimed Attendance Allowance, and my daughter when claiming Jobseekers, or whatever it was called in those days. You may find there is a time limit on what back payments can be got. I had to interview a taxpayer who hadn't noticed his retirement...
