can't turn ignition key or shift into gear Hi, A funny thing just happened to my girlfriend's 2001 Escape ( automatic) She tried to start the car but the ignition key could not be turned and the shift lever was stuck in park. Last week I purchased an 04 ext with 36k miles from a used car dealer. While looking at the car, I noticed the key was flat, and I asked the manager "isnt this supposed to have the chip key"? And he said no. They only had one key for the truck and one fob. I went to lowes and had two more keys made that do start the truck and open the doors, but they dont lock the back. On this snowy Monday, I started my 94 Grand Voyager up but when I turned it off, the engine kept running! The metal around the key seemed to have popped out. Thankfully, when I turned it all the way forward as to start, it seemed to seat back in, then I could turn it off. The auto parts store said it was probably the ignition key cylinder. Looking for some help trying to start my 69. The key turns to on and run positions but no further. It will not continue forward to actually start the motor. It's very firm like hitting a wall. I have a standard column, no tilt and it has worked fine for the past nine years. I've checked the reverse lockout and that's ok, I was going to take out the key cylinder but can't figure... |

How to remove an ignition key cylinder with a broken key in the cylinder, L-series? I've removed the ignition assembly and tried inserting an allen wrench in the release hole while trying to turn the cylinder with vise grips. I would be grateful for any suggestions. Thank You! |

Thanks, I should have been more specific, the dealer I got it from is not a gm dealer. This was a used car outpost of a mitsubishi and suzuki dealer. |

Some locksmiths have the portable tools to program keys (if you have no keys or just 1 key) also. usually they might be cheaper than a dealership. |

have you checked your keys? I noticed my 08' key with the remote attached was getting bent slightly, and I was constantly having issues turning the key. I leveled the key as much as i could and its all good now. | |
