Are there any procedures for locking down or "parking" the hard drive, etc. prior to boxing up and shipping my G4? I know other computers I've used have a feature that can lock the hard drive to prevent it from moving and causing damage during shipment. iMac G4 ...

I just got ahold of an old iMac G4 running Mac os X 10.3.9. I'm pretty sure the most recent Mac OS these can get to is 10.4.11. How can I get ahold of this to install it? A lot of apps don't run on anything before 10.4.1 (iTunes past 7.71, Safari past 1.3.2...) MacBook Pro A1226 2.2GHz Intel, iMac G4 700 ...

Got a G4 for someone who is currently working on a iMac G3, I heard about the migration assistant on Tiger and wanted to give it a shot. Is it possible to hook them up directly to each other via firewire? Also I know that there are different versions of firewire so is there a specific cable I need? I am trying to make this conversion as painless as possible on her, and keeping her programs and...

An odd one. All three of my browsers (Opera 10.10, Firefox 3.5.6, Safari 4.0.4) crash repeatedly when accessing www.nytimes.com (most common site). I am running OSX 10.5.8 on an iMAC G4 with 768MB RAM. I ran Onyx and repaired the permissions but to no avail. Other websites have failed but the nytimes site causes instantaneous failure. Kind of lost. Thanks.

Hi there, I recently found my old iMac while doing a clear out, and have decided to try and get it working again. I don't think the HD still has an OS on it, but when I power it on, it chimes, the mac powers on to the apple logo with the spinning wheel, and then goes into a grey screen with 'Panic: we are hanging here...' at the bottom. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

Just a follow up to my previous question. The person I bought the iMac g4/800 from told me that it never came with speakers when he bought it new. Were there some models that came without speakers. I cannot locate the model number on this machine. I assume it is the M8535ll/A. Thanks, Ken. iMac G3/400...

I just got a used iMac G4/800, in excellent shape, (flat panel 15", 768 megs of ram) with a cd-rw/dvd-rw combo. How do I open the cd/dvd slot to insert either media?, can't move it manually. Also, what is a good Canadian price for this machine, came with the Tiger 10.4 install dvd? Thanks, Ken. iMac G3/...

So yeah... my family just got a free G4 iMac from some friends of ours. It's a pretty dated system, and I'm wondering if it's worth installing WoW on it or not. In case you were wondering, it's one of those half-sphere ones. Thanks for the help!

Good point, there is a Power Mac G3 Blue and White that runs at 300 MHz. deedubbadoo , if that's what you have, that machine does not support FireWire Target Disk Mode, by which I mean that it won't itself go into that mode. But if you put the other, iMac G4 into FireWire Target Disk Mode and connect it to the Blue & White Power Mac G3, that should work fine. In saying that, I'm assuming ...

Leopard won't install on an 800 MHz machine, at least not without some tricks. Leopard's minimum processor speed is 867 MHz. Tiger is the max for the OP's Mac.
