I recently completed 37 IMRT treatments. My PSA was .18 at the time. My first PSA 3 months after treatment the same .18. I am confused as to whether the treatments were sucessful. I am scheduled for another test in February. Has anyone had salvage RT with similar results? Did it take longer for the PSA to go down? This is salvage treatment, not primary treatment with RT.

I have a question for my fellow IMRT brothers.I am going to start IMRT 1-6 10,they told me that the first time I came in they were going to put a catheter in to make sure my bladder is full.My question is will that have any affect on what progress I have made thus far with my incontinence?I am just a little weary having this done.any input will help.Thanks. Zach

OK, I think I am a first with IC resulting from IMRT, but hopefully there is someone else out there with whom I can share this unpleasant experience. My Radiation Onc. and Urologist both failed to diagnose for 18 months until my constant complaining of urethra pain let one to suggest IC. I have been experimenting since April of '09 with drinks and foods and slowly am getting the hang of what ...

Just got my 3 months PSA results after 37 treatments of IMRT. Not what I had hoped for. It stayed the same as before the treatments. (.18) Does it take longer than 3 months to decrease? There are a couple of guys out there that have maintained the same PSA level after IMRT for several years. I am having a consultation with a radiation oncologist in a few weeks. I really don't want to rush ...

First off, I am not having seconds thoughts about undergoing IMRT. My surgery 10 weeks ago appears to have not gotten all of the little bastich PCa cells and logically IMRT seems to be the next step. However, I am 61 years old, my wife also has cancer, ED is already an issue for the time being (but it's not bothering me or my wife as we still have a very enjoyable sex life) and so on. There...

Had my first PSA test today 3 months after IMRT. My Psa remained the same at .18. Thats what it was back in May when I started so I don't know if it is somewhere else or the radiation is still doing it's thing. The Rad Onc said that it was still undetectable and he will retest in February. I have scheduled an appointment with a medical oncologist in December to discus my options if need be. ...

( I did my RT at my local hospital and they do IMRT so it was not a decision I made, rather what was available to me. My hospital is very proud that they practice a state of the art technique. I have nothing to compare it to. Having said that I am glad I had IMRT. The concept appears great. At 5 months post RT my skin and breast are pretty normal in appearance and size. I do know one ...

Well it's the end of another wonderful week in the land of Oz. Today I completed my third week of Rad treatments and numbers 10 through 15. I am extremely happy to report that there are (hear me knocking loudly on wood) still no side effects from the treatments. Next week should prove interesting though. Because of the holiday on Friday they are going to double me up on Monday. I go in for ...
Sonny, Great news. You must be glowing in the dark by now with all that radiation and no side effects. I'm glad things are going well for you. I hope it stays that way.

Treatment #39 yesterday and, boy, am I glad that's done. No harsh side effects, though I kept waiting for them to show up. Occasional irritable bowel and sudden exhaustion the last week or so. They told me on Monday that I would graduate yesterday, so, being the scamp that I am, I tucked one of my kid's old graduation gowns under my coat, went into the changing room, and VOILA! They said no ...

I have an appointment on Tuesday with the Radiation Oncologist and was wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of questions to ask, I believe they will be suggesting IMRT but at this point I cannot think anymore and just want to be sure I cover everything. I know I will ask does this have a chance of working. Since MJ still cannot find any info on a Gleason 8 with negative margins, ...

Suppose surgery doesn't work totally (ie: PSA rises). Salvation Radiation (IMRT) might still be curative. But am I correct from my reading that your chances are now down to 30% (for a cure)? Mel

Mel, I should have expected this post, but I was hoping you could rest a little until after the surgery. You just might drive yourself crazy on this stuff. It's all a big crap shoot if the surgery doesn't work. It either has spread outside the prosate bed or it hasn't. Not really much we can do either way. TC-Las Vegas took a real proactive solution and just hit it with everything they had...

Fensty: I may have not been very clear, the cath. is inserted only once, that is for the inital set-up, the rest of the time I did the same thing you did which was to drink a pre-determined amount of water before each session. I do have the balloon inserted before every session. Sorry about the confusion if I caused it. David

Good luck in finding a cause. I really have not found a pattern of symptoms. I have symptoms most days, but there are days and sometimes a whole week with minimal symptoms and then other times I have more symptoms. I really don't understand why. Sometimes I'll drink coffee with more symptoms especially pressure and frequency and other times it doesn't bother me. I know if I drank coffee all ...

Boot, we are in such a similar situation, I am awaiting my first post salvage psa. According to my doctor, I wouldnt worry or be too alarmed at this first reading. My doc. said that the first one might even be slightly higher than my last ,only because x amount of time went by before the treatment started. I was told the first one is a new base, the 2nd one will be a real test to see if it ...

Purgatory said... Hello and welcome. Your apperent recurannce path is similar to mine. I had open surgery, then at around 11 months post surgery, I had salvage radiation via IMRT. Just completed 39 treatments totallying 72 gys of radiation. Your pathology was much more serious than mine, and I know you are a Gleason 7 also and a total of 40% of your prostate was involved with ...
