Had my RV 10 transponder and static system done for IFR cert. Have a 430w with Advanced glass with backup ADI, airspeed and MGL Alt-1 altimeter on backup battery. Tech would not certify the Alt-1 because he could not check it at (1000) ft per the FAA requirement. MGL specs are (700) ft which one would wonder why they didn't go to (1000). Checked regs and tech is correct. While backup altimeter is...

What is the minimum separation the controller should have between IFR/IFR VFR/IFR traffic. Is there any difference if the weather conditions are VMC or IMC? If weather is VMC and you are approaching the airport in a little C172, do they have to vector you out on a long downwind to put you out a set distance from the airport because you are IFR? If traffic werent a factor, could you expect to ...

Hello, A bit of a long shot but does anyone have, or know someone who has a single engine Cessna that would be willing to lease it out for a IFR renewal? I have an A cat in Hawkes bay I wish to do a little currency training and a renewal with. Any help would be appreciated.

Not looking for a poll but would like to know if the SkyView would perform better in IFR operations. I am happy with the success that Dynon is generating with the soon to be released Skyview. I have a buddy that is on the fence as to which EFIS system to chose. I looks like the leaders of efis systems are relying on graphics and resolution rater than meat and potatos performance to sway new ...

Hi chaps. I was just wondering, given current departure and arrival plates, many giving references to intersections, how to pilots of classic jets manage to follow them? Some will be equipped with INS which will obviously help, but some (like the 727 I believe) can only navigate VOR to VOR. Do they just get a little extra direction from ATC? Thanks in advance

''Interesting! So any such aircraft such as say a 747-200 would need to be retrofitted with BRNAV - the INS alone wouldn't cut it?'' That's correct. And it must have some sort of graphic nav display as well. My company had 747 classics and we had to fit Nav displays. They went the whole hog and fitted glass cockpits. They already had Marconi FMS900 Flight Management Computers fed from ...

I hope I'm asking this question in the proper forum. I'm looking for the exact regulatory language that prohibits an aircraft (due to low vis) from continuing to the min alt on an instrument approach once inside the FAF in the UK. I've done a Google search and a PPRuNe forum search. Maybe I'm not using the right words. I've read discussions about this topic (Approach Ban) but ...

zerozero - you DO need to look at EUOPS! The UK has not to my knowledge filed any variation on the rules on continuing past the relevant point so the EUOPS reference I gave you answers your question.

Hi, I'm looking at various live in-flight tracking options, Spot, TRAX etc. any feedback out there, pros/cons, coverage, reliability etc. Ideally with a basic messaging system. Mostly flying VFR, so logging into the IFR flight plan system won't cover me all the time (and is not live). Cheers, safe flights, Sam.

Combo box help I have a spreadsheet with a combo box that has three choices in it. I need a macro that will do the following: If "VFR" is chosen then T24:U24="1" If "Marginal VFR" is chosen then T24:U24="20" If "IFR" is chosen then T24:U24="30" Sorry to be so inept but VBA is brand new to me and I am learning. Thanks,...

I will be flying tomorrow with another pilot who I believe is non CFI. As of right now I am not night/day current nor am I IFR current. 1. Can I log hours towards total time just not PIC? 2. If I fly and land the plane can I count them towards my day/night requirements since Im not solo nor can I act as PIC with a passenger.
