My husband and I recently purchased a Bearded Collie puppy from a local breeder. The puppy was born Aug. 8/09 (almost 4 mos old now) and is on Iams Puppy food. We know from having previous puppies, that housebreaking has it ups and downs, and we fully expected and prepared for accidents to happen, but this time around we are really struggling and could use some advice. I don't know what we are...

Just thought I would see what everyone's views were on Globalpaw. There is a school of thought that says you should not let your puppy have anything to drink before bed, and should be crated without water at night (and anytime he's in the crate). The theory is, it will prevent your puppy from having accidents and help with housetraining. My personal thoughts are, that is FAR too long ...

I never had any issues with housebreaking either. Chip was housebroke in about 4 weeks. After the 5th week he only had two accedents in the house and they were both my fault. (got home from work late).

Hi All I found your forum as I was searching on how to wean an adult dog off of puppy pads. I am one of THOSE owners who got a toy breed in the middle of winter and chose to initially housebreak him on puppy pads. He does great 90% of the time, but now that he's a year old, I think it's time that he learns to do his business outside 100% of the time. Tonight, he shocked me by ...

Hi, I'm having a little trouble with housebreaking.... my 15 week old dane, titan, does not #1 or #2 in the house at all, but doesn't care to pee in his crate. I dont know if its because of a small bladder, or if he just isnt getting it. Ive been crate training him since he was 10 weeks old. The Crate is sectioned off. Any help would be GREAT, THANKS!

Ok so most of you know Nova was pretty much a kennel dog and didn't live in the house so she's not really house broken. What exactly is the trick to housebreaking an adult? I do praise her when she does business outside. She's just had her spay so the vet told me I need to go out with her to make sure she's not doing too much running around. But I go out there and she just stands in front of me...

I'm no expert (obviously) -- but I have now read very extensively about crate training -- so I can offer some suggestions. * make sure that the crate isn't too big. If you bought a crate to be large enough for the anticipated dog your puppy will grow up to be, then its too big for a puppy - they do sell barriers for some type of crates. The crate-space should be big enough for the dog to ...

Thanks a lot. I thought this was going a little too fast, but I've never had a dog before so you listen to other dog owners. I also realize he needs to be crate trained regardless of housebreaking him. I think the problem with "do it now and soon" was with my neighbor who's not the nicest guy in the world, but does have some beautiful show dogs. When I told my girlfriend he won't go in, ...

Nina is my first Greyhound. I owned other dogs in the past and I've found a temprarment that meets your needs to be most important when it come to a pet. I needed a dog that like to walk because I can't always get my husband and son to A calm dog that likes to lay around because I teach my son from home. And Nina gets her morning Kong at the start of lessons and she as happy as can be. A...
