Hi Hiker! Yep, it should be interesting this week with the employment, TOM, Du-buy everthing, can't we bail them out too, surely Congress would like to own some of that LOL..... Guess we get an indication with the countries around the world, but they sold off solidly and the US markets really didn't react that badly, we could see a bounce with them tonight.

I love my Fehrman Thru-Hiker, but feel it would be improved with G10 handle slabs that could be removed at will. I do not possess the equipment or knowledge to create these on my own. Anyone out there up to a little side job? Or can someone recommend someone who does embellishments? I can pay and will provide material if necessary.

I'm sectioning again this year, from the NOC to Newfound Gap. I typically go mid-May, which is what I've done for the past few years, doing everything south of the NOC. It has never been what I'd call crowded, but with enough people to keep it interesting. I would like to avoid the big crowds, but am not looking for solitude, so to speak. When typically has the main push of thruhikers gone ...

I am looking for a sturdy approach shoe that is suitable for hiking with a pack and climbing some moderate rock, say up to 5.8. After doing some extensive online research, it looks like the Five-Ten Exum Guide may be the best candidate. Anyone have a pair? Hike in them? Climb in them? Thanks.

Trail conditions: Old Toll Road was dry and easy. There is a tree that fell and tugged down a powerline. Another hiker said he saw it arc... we just went off trail to give it a wide berth. Arrow Trail was wet and muddy until about halfway up, then changed to light snow and running water. About three inches of snow near the summit -- a few places with thigh-deep drifts, but they were only a few ...

Hello Whiteblazers, I am an AT enthusiast, section hiker, and aspiring thru-hiker. I have a 65 year old father whose not in the greatest shape, but he's expressed interest in hiking a bit with me. I am looking for a place I can take him in the New England area and it can be on the AT or on another scenic trail. I was hoping people could make some recommendations. Here's what I'm hoping for...

Hello everyone, I just was wondering about this expression. It is used by the author of "The Hitch Hiker Guide to Galaxy" in the introduction, where he says "I took a number of baths and a degree in English". Is it used in the sense of "Ho fatto una serie di bagni e preso una laurea in inglese"? or is there a deeper meaning? It looks strange put in this way. Hence my confusion ...
